Default Codes at no cost :(

Yesterday morning my wife texted me saying that she had left both left windows partially open in the night and that there was much water in the car

Also said that the CEL and bunch of other lights were ON with a message - "Check AWD System." The traction control light was also on.

Last night I pulled the codes and there were a bunch of them. After researching on the internet it seems that p0138 was the main code and the vehicle disables the traction control and AWD systems in such a situation hence the other codes.

After this I tested our sprinkler system - and lo and behold - the sprinkler head was broken right next to the curb where the vehicle is parked at the front of the house - and was gushing the water onto the body of the car. This explains how so much water got into the car overnight when the windows were open - even though it did not rain.

The floor of the vehicle on the left side is fully soaked, as well as the seats. Water is filled in the both the left door panels and drops of water are coming out from the speaker grills.

Since the water logging of the car and the codes happened simultaneously, I feel certain that they are connected. The code p0138 is for "The P0138 code is set when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects that the rear O2 sensor signal voltage remains excessively high for an extended period of time." Hence it is an electrical issue of some kind and I am thinking this could somehow have been caused by the water getting into the vehicle.

I cleared the codes using techstream last night but they came right back. The vehicle itself seems to be driving okay so far. Before I give up and make an appointment with my local mechanic, wanted to get the thoughts and experiences of the gentlemen on this forum.

Is there something that I can do to fix this ourselves? Any chance that giving the vehicle insides to dry up properly in the next few days can cure the issue?
Please respond...

Hare Krishna!

Buy a portable dehumidifier, put it in the car, connect it to the outlet, set 40% humidity, and let it run until the car interiors are dry. It may need several days to complete its job, and you will have to empty the dehumidifier tank many times.

I’d make an insurance claim, you may dry it out but have electrical issues due to corrosion. There’s a reason why insurance companies total cars when flood water reaches the floor board.
