Differenses in spec grades
hi guys. New here. I want to buy a RX. But i am trying to find out what the different spec levels mean. Here in south africa we appear to have S, SE, XE and EX. I assume the S is bottom of the range but have no idea on the rest... any help perhaps? 😁
Can't get a brochure from your local dealer? Specs. are different between countries.
Quick Googling found this 2015 brochure for South America:

No idea what trim levels not mentioned in the brochure may be. Availability may differ by model year.

Every country has different spec levels and options. So it's going to be a bit hard to tell you as there is no S, SE, XE and EX in Australia.
There are two different bumper designs, one is more aggressive, sporty look whilst the other is quite conservative looking. That's where I started off first - choosing the particular front end that I wanted, and then it's narrowing down to the features that were important or desirable to me. The big ticket items are usually the Mark Levinson sound system, the head up display, and whether you want a traditional engine or the hybrid drivetrain. Be aware that the hybrid isn't going to be as capable in offroad, e.g. loose dirt roads conditions because it doesn't have a mechanical link between the front and rear axles, so there isn't a center differential lock.
Anyway, hybrid battery packs do not like dust or lots of vibrations so if you drive on a lot of unsealed roads, its better to go for the RX350. Maybe South Africa might even have the smaller capacity front wheel drive only RX270 4 cylinder variant.

It also comes down to the year. Here in Australia we have a few grades with the "Sports Luxury" being the top of the Lexus RX range. The Sports Luxury has everything except for the Mark Levinson audio and full size spare wheel. These are optional extras (the previous generation had everything thrown in). The year also makes a difference. There is no real difference between any of the grades looks wise from the beginning of 3rd gen to mid-facelift (here in Australia that was 2009 to mid-2012). From mid-2012 the front face changed with the new bumper designs with only the Sports Luxury, F-Sport and Special Edition ("X") variants getting the full aggressive front. The lower spec got a new design with DRL's but not the full aggressive face. The US and various other places will have various options and grades and is based on the market. You have to look at what you want, cost and make your mind up from that.
