I take my Mobil 1 and filter to my local Toyota dealership who charges me $20 for labor and it is done. No driving the used oil to Advance Auto to recycle. $20
Filter change is only $4. Still have to go under the car to pull the filter. More of a mess than oil pan bolt.
But thanks for sharing.
Yup, gravity is free is pretty dependable. I agree with someone upthread who warned about some fast lube/oil change places....my wife and I once had an assignment to use and assess some of these places, and our conclusion was DON'T GO NEAR THEM (unless you absolutely know who specifically will be doing the work). They by and large feature the worst combination possible: inexperienced, low paid people who are pushed to work quickly. Lots of employee turnover. Not good. Among the things we found were: oil added before the old oil was drained; worker forgetting to put the oil fill cap back on. Vastly overfilled oil. And on one memorable occasion, I got in a prolonged dispute with the manager who I had noticed was adding a bunch of air to my tires when I knew they didn't need any. She was filling them to 44 lbs because "look, it says 44 lbs right on your tires." ACK. Tried pointing out the words "maximum pressure" to her, to little avail.
Yes, some of these places are OK, but the general business model is not good...rushed work by inexperienced, poorly paid people. Not for me. You certainly don't need a dealer for an oil change, but go to someone experienced and competent.
