Thermostat replaced: Question
Hello All,
Just replaced waterpump and thermostat on my 2011 RX. After replacing therm. and letting it idle for about an hour, the fan did not come on. Am I missing something? Should turn on.

Two things impact it ... ambient temperature and blower motor/cabin-temperature.
Typical DIY instructions call for turning the heat up and that cools down the coolant, The step helps circulate the coolant through the heat exchanger.
As long as the temp gauge creeps to near middle, it should be good enough, Although you can look at the overflow reservoir, but I peek through the radiator cap. Just monitor level next few days and only open the radiator cap when engine is cold.

Temp is pinned in the middle! So, I would assume that it is fine. Funny thing is I changed it because of preventative maintenance. At 180 000 km the water pump was not leaking. Swapped out the therm. too.
Ah, the Schwarzenegger replacement..
You have to load it. Those cars have over efficient cooling system. So sitting idling not gonna cut the cream. Or cheese, whatever it is cut to do. You got to warm her up and get up a long hill. Watch that temp needle.
You bled the system, right?

Yes, it was bled! The whole job was completed by my brother, who is a VW/Audi tech. It was done at his dealership, after work. The shop foreman lets the techs work on their own personal cars once per week, so it only cost me. He was just surprised that after idling it for an hour, and then driving it home for about 25 minutes, the fan didn't turn on. The German car fans turn on quite quickly. Needle hasn't moved passed half.
