Hello, can i put 17 rims on my 2015 RX 350 for a new rim with winter tires option?

 

Respectfully, you can go any dia on rim as long as your tires keep the same dia as the vehicle rolls off the dealership. Overall dia impacts the distance per rotation and the easy one to recognize is the odo and speed go off from the gauge and there are many other factors that get impacted. [efficiency of machine etc].

Larger dia rim should be matched with less sidewall height of the tire.

To limit the answer for winter use tires, start by finding the best suited traction [dont ignore price of the whole package] and then decide the rim size. I am suggesting function before the form.

Summer use tires is where form can weighed equally with function, but the functional demand is much less as compared to winter.

If on the other hand your question is about changing the over-all diameter, then width of the tire needs to be considered as the inner edge may start hitting the wheel well when you turn and if there outer egde may come in contact with the fender [the wheel also moves up and down over bumps]. Folks who want to make a personal statement have to resort to spacers and rolled fenders.

Summary:
What is the overall dia you want to go to and what width tires do you want to have. With that info, some one may be able to answer you question.
The other possibility is that a member may reply with a combination that worked for them.

I think some RAV4 wheels will bolt right on. I also think this was covered some time ago, so try a search.

 

you have make sure you can clear you Callipers
on a FSport 18s is the smallest

head over to TireRack put your model in and it will show what you can run

 

Depends on the rims. Some will clear the calipers and some will not.
That's why TireRack pulled the 17" option years ago.

Gen 3 Toyota Sienna use the same brake assemblies and their wheels have the same 35mm offset as the Gen 3 RX.

The 5-spoke 17" Sienna L/LE wheels are nearly identical in design to the 5-spoke 18" RX wheels and are probably easier to keep clean in winter than the 14-spoke Sienna XLE wheels. I assume you will want 235/65-R17 winter tires to keep the same diameter as your existing wheels and tires.

The wheels are "re-manufactured" but were like new when I got them and are still in excellent condition after three Winters use.

 

How about re-calibrating the speedo for smaller wheels? Would it create more problems or is it super expensive?

 

I doubt you would be able to recalibrate the speedometer on this computer controlled system. Not like the old days with actual cables connecting the speedometer to the transmission and physical gears!

 

Lads, OP is not asking about Speedometer or Tire diameter differences. The question is specific to 17" rims. With proper sized tires, the speedo reading will be spot-on.

 

I wouldn't do it. Calipers would be too close for comfort. That's a savings just not worth the risk.

You need to provide more than just 17" wheel....What is the offset? How wide is the wheel?

There is no risk if appropriate 17" Toyota/Lexus wheels are used. There is plenty of clearance between the calipers and wheels.

The Gen 3 RX shares its brake components including calipers with the Toyota Highlander and Toyota Sienna. I just now - still again - verified this fact by using a part number cross reference website, the URL of which ClubLexus management would suppress if I were to supply it in this post.

One of our vehicles is a 2014 Gen 3 Toyota Sienna Limited that came with standard 35mm offset 18" wheels and which shares its brake components with the Gen 3 RX and Highlander. The 17" 5-spoke Sienna wheels I bought from Wheels and Caps fit it just fine with plenty of clearace for stick-on wheel weights and they would fit the gen 3 Lexus RX.

That said, DO NOT try to use any 16" Toyota/Lexus wheels on a Gen 3 RX! Although there are here are 16" wheels that would "fit" a Gen 3 RX but you wouldn't be able to use hidden stick-on balancing weights since the clearance between the caliper and rim would be tiny.

I had a feeling that was the reason. It's been quite a while since I've heard about someone re-calibrating their speedometer.

I would imagine fraud or perception of fraud is likely another reason why dealers/shops avoid doing it.
