Default Headlight for a RX 350

I have a 2011 RX350 and the right side headlight appears to bounce up and down with the cracks in the road....(pavement) Otherwise they work fine,
I took it to Lexus Yesterday here in Edmonton, Alberta where I bought it to have it checked out, it has 92000 klms on it
Work order says the mechanic found that the HID hold motor is loose, he removed the headlight and inspected it. His comments are it can not be fixed
and requires a new headlight....
The right side headlight assy part is $2987.06 plus 1.5 hours labor, plus taxes and GST here in Canada, about a $3200.00 touch

Has anyone else had this issue

This rx went into service just 5 years ago and the motor fails already?

You might try to claim a "defects in materials and manufacturing warranty". The HID motor is always in action due to the self leveling feature but that seems to be premature wear in yours! This (2013 RX350) is my 3rd vehicle w/ HIDs and the assembly has always been a concern but I have never actually had a problem.

If you must get a new headlight, they are plentiful on the net ie: http://www.getallparts.com/p-66190-a...lx2503148.aspx Since headlights are usually broken during a frontal accident, a body shop should be cheaper for a simple install. As much as I like my RX, they are a bloody fortune to repair!

Immediately after having my headlights adjusted, I got a headlight leveling warning light. Seems pretty likely the mechanic screwed something up, as I am reluctant to believe in coincidences. But if it went bad on its own, it only took 19500 miles to crap out. Replaced under warranty....

Good luck with yours...

Default 2010 RX350 Headlight Replacement

Hi Don,

Did you change the headlight of your rx at the end by giving all that 3k$?
I am having the same problem and today the dealer said it is 2029$.
I am thinking to buy from e-bay or after market. I wonder what you think about it?

Just another data point...I replaced the entire light assembly in my wife's RX450h. Bought a used one for about $850 and did the job myself after removing part of the front bumper. Had no issues with doing it myself, but even $850 for a used assembly is a lot. I decided to go with OEM instead of some of the potentially cheaper replacements.

Hi,

Can you tell me where did you buy that OEM headlight assembly?
And it was adaptive, right? I am looking for Part Number: 811100E061 and it is 2029$ at the dealer. Found some at eBay but the price range is very absurd.

My headlights are all fogged and yellowed...2010 Rx 350. I saw some aftermarket headlight assemblies on Amazon but don’t want to buy some random part... they were $320 for a pair I believe. Sounds like it’s not as simple as buying new assemblies and self installing. Alignment needed? Suggestions for good aftermarket options? Thx

Get your headlight lenses restored. It is far cheaper. Many auto detail shops will do this service. Most auto parts stores sell kits to do it yourself. I have done it on a 2003 Accord and it transformed them back to almost new condition. I recommend a final step of painting the lenses with Mequire's UV protectant headlight spray sealer as the factory UV treatment is removed during restoration.

How long does the restoration last? I have the kit but it seems like a shave and wax of the exterior layer of the headlight that would quickly degrade again... And a lot of work even though it's in my wheelhouse. I used to detail cars in college and high school (such an illustrious career!).

when you get done use this to protect them: Meguiar's G17804 Keep Clear Headlight Coating, 4 oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M4RVVX6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_wblwBb670D054

I did the 2003 Accord in April 2017 and recently resprayed the headlights with the Mequiar's Keep Clear headlight coating (needs to be done yearly) and they still look almost new.

I used a kit that had you coat the lenses with stuff and attach sanders to a cordless drill to remove the yellowing then bring the lenses back to a smooth finish.

How to change the HID bulb on the RX350. Model years 2013-2015

The correct OEM bulb to order is https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OEM-Philips-D4S-35W-Xenon-HID-Headlight-Bulb-for-10-15-Lexus-RX-350-450h/322912483804?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

It is a Phillips D4s 35Watt Zenon lamp 4300K. The 4300K is OEM standard white HID lighting. Once you go up to 5K, etc the light will become brighter and or more blue. You don't want mismatching light beams if only replacing 1 bulb. These are gas filled light bulbs that rely on a ballast for powering (to produce higher voltage), similar to a neon sign

1) As a precaution, make sure your headlights are completely OFF. Do not leave on Auto and do not turn on the car. Keep everything OFF until the job is completed.

2) Pop hood and remove the plastic shielding by pushing in the plastic pins. On the passenger side, I believe there are 5. These CAN be reused by finagling with the pin so that it pops back up vertically

3) Lexus improved the design of the ballast and dust cover by simply making the ballast serve as double duty as the dust (weather) cover on the 13-15 RX350

4) Unplug the power cord to the ballast which is found on the right hand side. This is a picture of the ballast assembly: https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OEM-13-...T/232580125758

5) Rotate the ballast counter clockwise until it can be removed
6) Remove the silver igniter by turning counterclockwise about 45 degrees and pull towards you
7) Set everything aside

Now to removing the bulb

1)There's a U-shaped set spring retainer that has kind of curled circle ends. This holds the bulb assembly in place by locking into notches on either side at roughly 11:00 & 1:00 on the housing. Pinch those two curled ends towards each other and pull them out and down to clear the notches and swing the retainer downward. This will release the bulb in the very center of the unit.

2)Pull the bulb out by it's base. It's about 3" long and comes straight out. Don't touch the glass if you intend to reuse the bulb.

3) Holding the new bulb by the base and without touching the glass, push the bulb back into the hole. There are notches & tabs in the base and mount that must match. Just rotate the bulb until it catches.

4) Reset the retaining spring by swinging it up and pushing it in while pinching the curled ends a bit. Release the ends when they lock into the metal notches on the housing. Make sure the retainer is secure before proceeding.

5) Reattach the metal socket fitting by pushing in at and turning clockwise 45 degrees from roughly a 10:00 to a 12:00 position.

6) Put the ballast /dust cover back into position and rotate clockwise

This was very easy to do on the passenger side of my vehicle. Accessibility was great. Haven't done the driver side yet so I don't know how tight the space is but the steps are the obviously the same

If you went to the dealer, I believe they would charge around $200 just to change a light bulb. I'm sure the OEM bulb from them is like a $100 plus their 10 minutes of labor. You'll know the bulb needs replacing when the headlight doesn't consistently come on or if it does the light will be reduced and the color is different (pink)
