Default RX350 VIN number not found

Hi,

I'm looking to purchase a used 2010 RX350 but none of the VIN number decoders online are able to decode its VIN number. I also noticed that digit 10 of the VIN number has a "0" where I was expecting to see an "A" for 2010. What could this mean? Is the VIN number correct?

The VIN number is JTJBK11A602004684.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Rezvan

Your Insurance company would know! Also the Vin Number on my 2013 appears on the drivers side windshield, drivers side door jamb as well as inside the engine compartment!
You can also log into Lexus vehicle history and check there... https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers/history

here is a little info I found but interestingly the model year is missing!

http://www.vindecoder.net/?vin=JTJBK11A602004684&submit=Decode

Be careful of a possible salvage vehicle...

Thanks. See attached for a photo of the nameplate inside the door jamb which lists this VIN number and other info. Does everything look ok?

Since mine is a 2013 model, it is hard to compare . My 2013 RX, has a bar code at the bottom of the label and was made in Canada.

Did you check other locations (like somewhere more permanent than a label ie: stamped into the metal or maybe the bottom of the windshield drivers side for a match?)
If you are unable to verify the correct VIN...I would take a pass and look elsewhere..Too much money at stake to fool around.

Weight ratings in Kg is a clue that this Japan built (not Cambridge ON) RX was originally
built and sold outside the US. It does not show up in any Lexus USA database that I tried.

Yes the car is manufactured in Japan. I'm buying it outside North America.

look at the vin through the windshield...you need to verify correct vin before even considering a purchase. Let us know what you find out, as this is very interesting.

Reminds me of some VIN CLONING Ring that got busted in FL for the Illegal Auto Export Scheme or some lower models were rejected overseas and bounced back and sold to unsuspecting US customers .

Watch out!!! Once the vehicle is discovered stolen and has a false VIN, the unsuspecting customer who bought it not only has to GIVE UP THE VEHICLE, BUT ALSO STILL LIABLE FOR THE VEHICLE LOAN /NOTE BALANCE. If you had paid CASH, well you are just SOL!!!! In the report, often even legit big name car manufacturer dealerships (whom had no idea the vehicle was not legut) bought these illegal vehicles and turned around sold to customers.

The following occurred in 1998 (if my memory is correct ). But way back in the 1970's a big ring was busted in NJ for similar scams:

https://pibillwarner.wordpress.com/2009/03/25/fbi-breaks-up-25-mill-vin-cloning-scam-arrests-ringleaders-same-scam-run-in-sarasota-pi-bill-warner-wants-to-know-when-will-used-car-dealers-be-arrested/

I would pass on this one. If you still want to pursue it, then I would take it to a Lexus dealer and ask them to show you that ALL VIN#s on ALL BODY PANELS, engine, transmission, and etc. MATCH!!! But even then, I would really question if all the VIN labels are authentic and not cloned? ?? Your insurance company can run the VIN# through a database and see (but IDK if this is linked INTERNATIONALLY if the vehicle was originally stolen from overseas)??? Again, too many questions on this vehicle and I would just pass and move on....

OP, what country are you in and where are you trying to import the vehicle from?
Obviously, VIN in question does not comply with US standards, which may be an indication of it being a fake.

That VIN label does look to be awfully "fake" looking. I'd make sure everything checks out before proceeding with anything further.

I'm pretty sure no insurance company will cover a vehicle they cannot identify a VIN for so I would call your agent with the number you have.

The data plate you have pictured later in this thread really does not look right to me, but I have to admit my knowledge of what is used outside of North America on modern vheicles is limited.
