Dear Lexus Users,

We are looking to buy a used RX 350. We are new to Lexus.

Yesterday we visited a dealer and liked 2014 RX 350 having 14K miles. We liked the exterior/interior colors, price, mileage etc. But when we took it for a test drive, we heard engine noise...it was loud. We were expecting a nice quiet drive in Lexus.

Is the engine noise in RX 350 for 2014 normal?

Please let me know your experienes also point me to correct thread if it already exists.

I find my 2014 RX to be fairly quiet except under heavier acceleration. I believe the exhaust system has a valve in it to open up and increase flow under heavier throttle and that makes it drone a bit louder.

 

You need to drive a different RX 350 to see if the noise is the same, and I expect it will be the same. There was a minor facelift in 2013, so the 2013-2015 models are most similar.

I test drove other vehicle (2013 model) and observed the same engine noise. Looks like its the noise engine makes during initial pickup when its in low gear and high RPM (as explained by the sales guy :-) )

I also did a test drive of an Acura MDX and observed more noise.

We bought the this Lexus! :-)

Congrats on your purchase. They are wonderful SUV's, and the engine noise is quite low under normal operating conditions. If you put the pedal to the metal, it will bark, as it should under wide open throttle.
