I stupidly brushed my Lexus against a support post paying more attention to the passenger side car near me. I put on a bit of touch up paint on the bare spots to slow down any corrosion until I can get it repaired.
I now have two estimates - $1,610 and $1865. Based on the attached photo, you will see some scuffing on the driver side back door and also on the rear quarter panel - including a bit of a vertical crease. Both repair places say they need to remove the roof rack and paint the rear quarter panel and roof up to the front pillar down to the hood since there is no break point to avoid painting seams.
I love a good looking car, but this seems like a lot for the damage. I will be the first to admit that I do not know the repair business which is why I am asking for thoughts here.
My 2015 had a gouge in the rear bumper when I bought it (original owner told me he had not pulled into the garage far enough and the hinge on the door gouged it. The dealer I bought it from took it to his local painter and they guy wanted $500 for a 'paint over' or $1200 to remove, sand, and replace.
I bought it as is, and brought it to a local guy I know. He quoted me roughly $500, but it ended up being $650 or so as he couldn't re-use the bumper protector and he said the pearl white or whatever they call it cost him a bit extra. I was VERY pleased with the work.
Next day, I come out of ChickFila, after parking in one of those spots that it would be IMPOSSIBLE for anyone to ding my door, and DANG IT, there's a ding in my door. So much for having a 'perfect car' for 24 hours.
What they said above. I bought a BMW that had a scrape on the bumper and took it to my trusted body-shop...they wanted like $1200 to paint it. Went back to the sales guy, corner independent car lot, and he gave me 'his guy's' number, and they did both corners of the bumper for $400. Looked fine. I knew I would scratch it again.
Svidas - I sent your photos to a friend who had similar damage. Waiting for his reply. I think your estimates are about right for an insurance job. However, if you can find a guy who knows a guy....You know what I mean, maybe 600-700 would be about right for a "paint over"

Sorry to see this, if it's a Lexus affiliated shop then the quote seems about right. Also pearl paint is usually more labor intensive because in most cases they spray a base coat, then the pearl and then the top coat.
Thanks all. The estimates are from places Lexus suggested. A friend recommends a shop that is supposedly a lot cheaper but I don't know if they have experience with Lexus or the pearl paint.

all this, and you have the effects of the sun and UV impacting the base, pearl and clear layers. It takes experience to tint properly and get them right. In this case, darker colors are easier to match and have less UV impact to be concerned with.
OP, please be sure the shop can offer you some type of paint match guarantee, or you may have to live with the mismatch.

Svidas - Here is the reply from my friend who had similar damage. He went to Caliber Collision in Lincoln, CA, which is AAA approved. They matched the paint.
Hope this helps.
Ours was @2,800.00 to get fixed.…Dan. (Ray's friend)
the estimates are in line with a complete, professional job. That is not to say you can't get it done for less, but if waaay less, I would be concerned.
