Default Differential and transfer case fluid interval

Hello,
I was looking in the Canadian owner's manual and I noticed there is not a specified service interval for changing the fluid in the diff and transfer case. On my '05RX this service interval was every 64000kms.
I was wondering if anything is listed in the US owner's manual; or what other people are recommending for this fluid change.
Thanks in advance,
Chris

I did mine after I bought it at 21,000 miles. It was dark, but not that bad. I replaced it with Mobil 1 synthetic gear lube. Easy to change both, just be sure to open the fill plug first so you know you can do it to fill it back up, after you drain the fluid! You do not need Lexus to do this, any Exxon or Mobil station will have the correct lube.

Unhappy Replace Front Differential Fluid and Rear Differential Fluid

hello all,
My RX212 is 75000 km, I never charge Transmission and Differentials oil. Today lexus dealer call me (my car is in regular 8k oil change) process and tell me that I need to chage oil in both (?) differentials. I didn't knew that RX350 have two
I do undestand that from one lexus dealer sevives asstant is not transmission so I am completly mistaken.
Do they say right so I have transmission, front differentials and read differentials to change oil?
How often it need to be done?
Thank you to demistified it for me.
Vladimir

On my 2001 RX, I did mine every 90K miles.

Something I never understood. I thought that draining and refilling the transmission fluid every 30K eventually replaced the transfer case fluid too. Aren't they in the same "part," as opposed to the rear differential which is a whole different unit altogether?

Different parts. The transmission is the gear box and controls the shifting. The transfer case sends the power to the rear wheels when called for.

Hello All,

I recently changed my tranny oil, rear diiferential and transfer box oil. ODO was around 86K miles and oil looked rather purplish and mechanics said transmission worked very well. I didn't flush just changed and 6L WS oil was added. In my country we coudn't find 75W85 so mechanics recommended 85W90 for differential. Is it OK?

Thanks,
DweN

Question 85W90 on transfer and rear differential

Hello all,

I recently changed my tranny oil and Mobil1 WS was poured back. 6L added.
My question is as 75W85 wasn't available mechanic recommended to change to Toyota 85W90.
Is it ok for 2010 Lexus RX350 AWD?
What is the difference with 75W85 and 85W90?

Thanks in advance,
Dovlet

What you want to use is synthetic 75W-90 as it will flow better when cold, protect better, provide better mileage and last longer. The 85w-90 is thicker and will work fine, but may reduce mileage.
75w-90 is made by all the major oil companies https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/we...dSearch=448084

75w-90 is synthetic and a better option and should be available everywhere. However 85w-90 will work, it is just thicker and flows worse in the cold.
I have never seen 75w-85.

Mellon,
You are probably thinking of the torque converter, which is indeed part of the transmission, and the fluid does eventually get replaced as the new stuff sloshes around as time goes by, so to speak.

As per manual it says 75W85. We don’t have such cold weather here so I think I’m OK with 85W90.
Thanks all.

FYI...Red Line has 75w85 available .75w85 was supposedly suggested by Toyota to meet the CAFE requirements for gas mileage. No issues to use 75w90 as a substitute, I prefer it due to the availability. Perhaps owners in harsher weather conditions will find a negligible mpg difference.

Default Any guide on Front and rear differential fluid change?

Hey, I'm trying to replace rear differential and case transfer oil on the Rx. Any guide on how its done? Also how sensitive are refilling the oils back after the drain?
