I am into my third RX350 in a row. From the looks of things this will be my last Lexus product. The last two have had rust problems within the first year. My second one had the tailgate painted after 6 months which I replaced after 2.5 years into a 4 year lease. My current one had rust in many places on the tailgate within one year. I am stuck with this vehicle for almost three years. Lexus refused to accommodate me in any form, they quoted their legal obligation to me under their warranty program and that is all that they were prepared to offer when I wanted to move away from this vehicle. Hope you all inspect you tailgate for signs of rust and rush them into Lexus for your warranty work. Remember, your time has no value to Lexus Canada. All the running around will be on your time and money while adding unnecessary miles on your vehicle. I have been buying new vehicles for 45 years and my last two RX350's have been the only ones during that time that have required rust related warranty work. So keep checking your vehicles for rust, there is no better time than now.

"At Toyota, our vehicles are about quality, durability as well as great design and handling - all bring customers more fun and delight"
I wish the above quote applied to Lexus RX350 vehicles. My last two RX350's both had rust problems in the tailgate in the first year. One actually had it in the first six months. I did not find this much fun or delight. I should have know better, and bought a Toyota instead.
By not buying a RX350. I am into my third RX350. The first one had no rust. The last two had to have the tailgate repainted in the first year. Lexus tells me their only commitment to me is to repair the damage as per their warranty commitment. Where is customer loyalty. Check your RX350 for rust and take it in immediately to be repaired under warranty by Lexus. Then enjoy the rest of your lease of the rust bug like I am for the next 33 months. I know it is a time consuming venture but it is the only recourse you have other than publishing it so that your fellow consumers do not make the same mistake as you have.
I have had 3 RX350s. The last two required the tailgate to be painted within an year of purchase. The first one within 6 months.
Most people do not notice the small specks before it is too late. All Lexus is prepared to do is to repaint it. All the running around as a result of pictures and repairs is on your time and dime.
They are only prepared to do what is legally required under their warranty. Whatever happened to customer loyalty. They do not consider this to be a problem with the RX350. By the way, I have driven new vehicles for 45 years and I have only needed warranty rust repairs with my last two vehicles, both RX350. IF YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED RUST PROBLEMS WITH YOUR RX350, please publish, it is the only way to get Lexus to recognize that it is a quality issue with these models. One vehicle with premature rusting is one too many. Two is a plague.
RX350
Last two vehicles, one had about 8000 kilometers and the other about 16,000 both less than one year old, required tailgate to be pained as a result of rust.
In the last case their was rust in many places on the tailgate.
You can start 100 different threads, but it won't solve your issue.
I've been through 3 winters in our RX and no rust on the gate itself.
The area around the gate opening is covered in plastic, so no salt got there. Needless to say, no rust.
So far, so good.

I am trying to make sure that people become aware of this issue and take a look at their vehicle to make sure they get it repaired while under warranty. Most people do not notice it until it is too late.
Glad to hear you did not have problems. My first one was perfect and that is why I leased the other two.

We've had 3, 2006, 2008, 2011 and only the 2011 one showed what seemed like rust but on the chromed piece. Turns out, that piece is plastic, so it had just stained like rust, but it wasn't rust. Dealer polished it up and good like new again.
We had rust seeping thru the gasket at the rear hatch handle. Source was the nuts/bolts inside the latch.
Very minor but I questioned it.
Lexus replaced the entire hatch with new, their cost.
The moderator considers my comments to be spam. He has taken the liberty of moving them to one thread. The context of the comments changes when this is done.
100% of my comments are true and I will be happy to leave Lexus alone if they can find even one statement that I make as having been stretched.
I intend to make people aware of rust issues. Not everyone reads every thread and as a result it needs to be commented on in appropriate areas. If my comments are inappropriate delete them. I do not have a problem with it.
I will continue to add new threads and comment until my situation is resolved to the satisfaction of both parties or my lease runs out, which currently stands at 33 months.

I get a little bit of rust residue coming right under the backup camera, but it is also from inside the handle, and it just wipes off.
I'm sure that sucks, to have two in a row with the same serious and uncommon issue. Some people win the lottery twice in a year. Isn't fair either way. I appreciate the need to vent about disappointments and the value to inform others about problems to make them aware, that's what makes these forums so great as a resource. If the moderator thought your comments were spam, they would have been digitally incinerated, but they do have a mandate to keep conversation threads tidy and while you might feel they are separate themes, it might not seem that way to others given the context.
It's too bad you don't have pictures handy though, I would have really liked to see how bad it could be for a new car to require painting after 6 months due to rust. I mean, I've heard about defects needing fixes (my friend works in the paint shop part of the factory that assembles the Camaro, I've heard plenty a story about paint defects), but I also know that the rust proofing is pretty thorough and decent stuff whether GM or Lexus, to have it rust so fast is really surprising.
In the first vehicle there were a number of rust spots directly above and touching the Lexus loco.
In my current vehicle there were probably about a half a dozen rust spots at various places on the tailgate. None of the rust spots appeared around edges or around chrome. Also, I saw the service manager take pictures around the hydraulic arm that controls the tailgate. I actually did not bother looking at it, but he went there on his own, which would seem to indicate that it was not a unique problem.
I just looked at the back of the vehicle and the long strip of chrome below the loco seems to have a clear plastic film added between the tailgate and the chrome piece, so maybe they noticed something below the chrome.
