I simply pointing out which of the two V8s offered in the Tundra and Sequoia is in the GX. I was not stating that the V8 is a lower grade than that of the RX.
It's simply a lower displacement option. 4.6L V8 is a primary engine used in a Land Cruiser 200 (the big one) sold in the Middle East and Australia so rest assured it's a very well built truck engine considering how Land Cruisers are used overseas.

No disagreement there. It's a fantastic motor.

Its not a question of engines, IMHO the RX feels more Toyota-like than the GX for the reasons I outlined in my post from earlier today.

You opinion is definitely valid and I respect it, but in my opinion, engines are very much a part of the discussion. We'll have to agree to disagree.

All the engines are Toyota engines thats the thing. Lexus doesn't have an engine that is not in some way shared with Toyota, except for the LFA and for now the 2.0T (that will not last). The 3.5 in your IS and my GS is at its core the 3.5 in your RX, which is shared with basically everything. The LS' 4.6 is the basis for the 4.6 in the Toyota SUVs.

I guess we need to talk to the neighbor.

On a side note and totally off topic, how long until the twins arrive?

Awesome! I wish you and your wife all the best! We have a 3 year old and a 4 week old. It's quite a ride!

The way they glide down the road and never do anything in a harsh or an abrupt way. The RWD platform of the "better" cars has something to do with that, but its also something else. Unless you've owned or extensively driven a non-entry level Lexus model (I would consider entry level the CT, ES & RX...have not driven the new NX to get my feelings on it) its something you don't miss...but once you have you do miss it. It was especially clear to me when I got the GS after having gone to the ES for 10 years from the LS. Once I started living with the GS day to day I found that "Lexusness" again that I loved in the LS...but was lacking in my two ES sedans. Even in the IS you feel it. The GX's cheap in places interior detracts from it, but driving down the road its there in that vehicle too. Its not in the ES and RX to me...and certainly not the CT which I think is dreadful. I would buy an RX or ES without question even with that said, but your neighbor has a point.
I was wondering if that "missing something" would be present in the higher level Toyotas such as Landcruisers / prados, etc. It is natural that bigger and heavier vehicles are more likely to feel plusher and refined ( OK please disregard commercial trucks ).

I've never driven a Prado, but I have driven a Land Cruiser and I don't see it. The Land Cruiser has a lot of cheap plastics inside for the money, and nothing about the switchgear or the way it feels has that level of uber refinement. The LC is a vehicle I just don't understand at all...at $60k sure but not at 80K.

Its not an issue of weight really, its overall refinement, execution and attention to detail. An RX or ES is as heavy as a GS.
