Default burning smell in cabin

When starting the RX, I smell something I would describe as "burning insulation".
It happens only first 10-20 seconds after the air comes out from the vents, and then the smell disappears. The smell is stronger after prolonged parking- it is the strongest in the morning and less noticeable after I start the RX 2-3 more times ( I usually make 6-8 short trips during the day).
The smell was very strong awhen I started the RX first time after it was parked for one week (while we went on vacation).

There are no warning lights, and the vehicle runs just fine.
I pulled out the carbon cabin filter (changed about 3 mo ago) - it did not smell and was very clean still.

any thoughts?

I am hesitant to go to the dealer-afraid they will rip apart the dash, which they probably will not be able to put back together without having rattles and noises after.

The smell comes from the inside- there is no smell under the hood after I start the RX

thanx

Take the car to the dealer.

You're not going to get your issue resolved posting about it here.

Be sure to tell them of your concern about ripping apart the dash.

Guess you're going to have to leave it there parked for them to notice the smell.

The strongest smell after you parked for a week lasted the same 10-20 seconds?

Weird that the more you use it, the less you smell it. Typically its the other way around.

I would inspect under the hood. Rodents nest can have a similar smell.

Check under the car and see if you did not catch a trash bag under the exhaust pipes. Very common problem around my area.

Thanks to every one for your replies. No smell from under the hood. As per shop foreman, it is a common issue with new Lexus vehicles because in hot weather the climate control system goes into recirculation mode. The water in the evaporator box cause mold and mildew build-up. The dealer will clean the evap box through the drain line The issue is documented and is not specific to lexus but the newer ones apparently develop the issue sooner.
