Default Cracking Tail Lamp - Thoughts?

Hi Forum,

I've been noticing a progressive crack forming on the right tail light of my 2013 RX (picture attached). Any thoughts on cause? There is only a mild slit you can feel on the exterior and not a single area that would indicate any impact that I can tell. Like I said, it is getting worse as the larger of the two has tripled in size in about a month. It originally started about the size of the smaller. I'm in Alberta, so our winter climate is pretty harsh on everything.

I was at the dealer, service manager is away, and they were quoting me $359.00 to install a new one -- still going to appeal to the service manager to cover it under warranty as neither can I envision a plausible way for this to have been impacted so highly nor impacted it myself or see an impact area from something else.

In case it still is not going to be covered under warranty, http://lexus.sewellparts.com/oem-cat...X350-2013.html -- 81580D 815800E040 LAMP ASSEMBLY, REAR, (RH, RIGHT HAND, PASSENGER SIDE) is a bit better price through the club lexus discount, and I consider myself pretty handy. Any suggestions on how to attempt to replace the unit? Hopefully I picked the correct one from their site.

Thanks for any advice everyone, the internet is a wonderful thing for help.

Hard one to prove either way, impact or defect. Impact would be easily understood/accepted if it was on the front of the car.
Can you get it out to check the housing ?
Wondering if it was installed & fasteners torqued too much.
Tiny crack, unseen at new, now migrating to the lense.

Not sure what it will take to access the tail light. The fastening set-up is pictured here.
I almost took the inside cover off our door last year. Bought a complete set of fasteners to have on hand as I'll always break a couple on a job like this.

My daughter's Civic has a small dent high on the rear quarter, no idea how it got there. I can work the area easily & pop it back out. Need to remove the tail light to access the area.
Found out this morning I need to remove the bumper skin to remove the tail light . Try again next sunny day.

Good luck with it.
