My 2013 RX 350 now has 16,000 miles on it. Dealer told me the 15000 mile service would run over $250, or was it $450, which seemed kind of high for the services included. I'm wondering what really needs to be accomplished to keep my warranty in tact, and what are the important items to have accomplished at this point. Also wondering what alternatives are available in the Orlando area, to get this service accomplished, and who would be capable of handling it.

First place to go is to check the Maintenance Schedule for your vehicle in the Owner's Manual, or here online:

As you can see, the 15K mile service is nothing more than a tire rotation and a bunch of checks. Oil changes are every 10K miles. My recommendation for you it to go to call your local Toyota shop and see about scheduling a service for getting the tires rotated at their Express Lube Service.

Almost forgot, it does mention in the Maintenance Schedule about replacing the batteries in your keys/fobs. This is something you can do yourself and only something you need to do once a year at most if that. You can put it on your calendar to do on a given date each year. Just make sure the dealership does not charge you next time you go in for this line item. Info on the battery change is in your Owner's Manual as well.

Tire rotation is all that is needed. A little high at $250.
Each dealer has their own maintenance schedule, which depends on how greedy they are. Since they get paid to perform services, it is in their interest to have more recommended services and at shorter intervals.

 

VERY HIGH. I wouldn't spend more than $15 for this service, but you don't have to go to a dealer.

 

Here's the breakdown for a $250 or $450 for a 15,000 mile service

$50 for tire rotation and visual inspection.
$200/$400 for the Cappucino and cokies at the lounge.

They change the oil, rotate the tires and check the fluids and air filters. Go to a Toyota dealer or independent shop and save money. Just make sure they use the correct oil. As long as you have records it was performed your warranty is secure.

 

Absolutely correct here. With around 60K now on my 2010h, I've been using Toyota almost exclusively for a fraction of the price. Nothing in your warranty say's you have to use Lexus for normal maintenance, just that you have it done as specified in the manual. You are required to use Lexus for warranty repair. Cost of ownership can really be reduced this way.

 

At 15K they are not even changing the oil.

 

Markrivers, my thoughts exactly. Even the tire rotation is overpriced. Locally, Toyota service is much more convenient for me.
The next question is exactly what is necessary to keep the warranty in tact. In the past, for most cars, oil changes were the only thing you needed receipts for. This service consists of only the tire change, key fob battery and visual checks all around.

 

I use my favorite toyota service bay even for our Lexus when im too lazy to change the oil myself.
I do most of the DIYs ( except for brakes) and document them on Lexus drivers website.
I keep the receipts ( filters, oils, spark plugs etc)
I buy the oil from Toyota and sometimes from Walmart ( Mobil 1 0w-20)

So far, never encountered a problem when trading/selling the vehicle.

Your 15,000 service is around $70-80 in a toyota service dept.
it's the labor cost that's making the price high.

I have a local Mom and Pop tire shop here that will do tire rotation for $15.00 and plus tip$5.00
Still a lot cheaper than going to a Lexus dealership.

Anyway, if you have specific concerns, like a harsh ride or some rattling noise, it's better to have them take a look. Otherwise. Just go to a toyota.

NEVER EVER...in your lifetime have an oil change at those " JIFFY lubes".

Contrary to what this thread says, there is a lot more stuff being done during 15K maintenance as listed here in the maintenance manual available at http://drivers.lexus.com

Not sure if a Toyota dealer will do all this. So I am thinking of going to a Lexus dealer. I live near San Jose, California. Can anyone living in the San Francisco Bay Area tell me how much I should expect to pay for 15K servicing of a 2013 RX350 - AWD? And which dealer are you referring to?

 

We have an appointment with Napa Toyota for the 15000 mile service on our 2014 RX-350 on Friday, Jan 16th so I'll be able to tell you then.

I have already changed the FOB batteries so it won't include that and I'll probably have the air filter changed as we drove through some dusty rural areas on our trip to MO this year. Other than rotate tires and re-torque drive shaft nuts and bolts it is adjust and inspect.

It will be interesting to see how the service from two different Toyota dealers compare.
