Default 2013 Rough Ride

I took my 2007 Rx 350 in for a tire sensor replacement and was given a 2013 Rx loaner.
While the cabin was quieter the ride was horrible. Very rough and bumpy. When I asked the service manager about the ride, he said Lexus had changed from an independent suspension to a solid suspension in 2010 and the ride was bumpy. Why would Lexus change to a less comfortable ride???
I am in the market for a new car, and wanted a new RX but the ride is so bad compared to my car, they lost my business. If you are considering an RX, get ready for a rough ride.

I had a 2007 RX400h and you are right that the suspension is noticeably firmer in the latest RX (even more so with my F-Sport). That's because of the double-wishbone rear suspension. Lexus did that to improve handling performance and it also reduces suspension intrusion into the cargo area increasing cargo space from 38 to 40 cu ft.

It's a risky tradeoff that seems to have paid off for Lexus as the RX is a Lexus best seller. I do miss the buttery smooth ride of my '07, but I don't miss the body roll, nose dive under braking, and wabbly insecure feeling during quick maneuvers.

Before you dismiss the new RX, make sure you test drive an RX with the 18in wheels (not lower-profile 19 inchs)and check the tire pressure is at 32-33 psi. Dealers typically overinflate their vehicles' tires to 36-38psi. These two factors can noticeably affect ride comfort.

Good luck.
