Default Oil Quantity: 6.5Qt vs 7 Qt

The 2011 RX 350 owner's manual indicated 6.5 Qt with oil filter change. Will it hurt the engine if I put 7 quarts into the engine including a filter change? I noticed that when the dealer do an oil and filter change, the receipt/invoice stated they used 7 quarts but I don't know whether the dealer used half or whole of the seventh quart?

I do believe extra oil will hurt you engine as I stated in earlier posts. It will prematurely hydraulically lock your engine, and potentially damage other components.

I believe the dealer have to charge you 7 Quarts, because they can not charge you 0.5 as it come in a can of 1.0 each ?

Although I am sure they can charge the 6.5 quarts, I have never seen a repair shop that does that. Every shop I have seen rounds up to the next quart even if they use less than a full quart.

So in this case, I am sure they put 6.5 quarts in and charged 7 quarts on the invoice. It is easy to check on the dip stick. If it is at the full mark, you know they used 6.5 quarts, if it is a half of a quart over the full line, they used 7 quarts and that extra oil should be drained out and put back to the correct level.

Can anyone tell me how to remove the oil filter housing on a 2012 RX 450h. Is a special tool needed?

not likely, but rear engine seal may be damaged by the excessive oil pressure
