Question LED strip wiring question

I have a general question. I'm not to good at wiring but I have a small problem. I'm going to be putting led strips around the headlights on my 2010 so they'll look like the 2013 model headlights, and I want them on all the time and (obviously) only when the car is running. Can this be accomplished by wiring it to the alternator? Will this work? Can anyone chime in with suggestions?

you can do that, but it's very risky and highly suggest u to add a fuse on it. the easiest way and cheapest way is probably tap to cigarette lighter power and run from interior to exterior. FYI, there is no way u can add external LED strip and lights up as shinny as factory LED headlight. i'm pretty confident to say the LED strip that u can buy now will appear like no light under bright sunny day. so don't waste ur time on it.

i suggest u tap it parking light (easier to install as well) and it's more obvious to see during night time or whenever u turn on the parking light.

All of fuses are under the hood. You could tap into the right (proper, after the fuse) side of the Ignition fuse to accomplish what you need. The downside is that if your system shorts-out, it will kill the car.
Did you look at DRLs? Those might get power just when you need them. If they're not Bi-Xenon, you may have +12V at one of the headlights.

If you decide to tap into the fuse box, there is a widget called a fuse splicer where you can have two wires connected to one fuse.
