Default Headlights 2013 RX350

Drove my new RX350 at night for first time last night. Halogen headlights seemed dim compared to what I am used to. On dark hilly country roads, the illumination was only a short distance ahead and it appear that the top of the illuminated area was cut off. On level highway, everything was acceptable. Any one have similar observation or suggestions? or do I need to eat more carrots?
Thanks
Joe

Hi Joe and welcome to the forum. I noticed that no one had responded to your question and thought I might offer an explanation. There are a few types of headlights offered on the RX (halogen, HID, LED). The halogen are the standard base level offered. The HID and LED are extra cost upgrades. The HID's are the brightest. In addition, some of the pre-2013 cars have HID lights that turn with the steering wheel to provide additional directional coverage. I have the HID lights that turn. They are very bright with excellent coverage. I have halogen headlights in my second car, a Subaru Outback that I use for fun adventures where I don't want to take my RX. There is a huge difference between halogen and HID. I do feel that the halogen are weak in comparison and I will pay the extra for upgraded headlights on future cars.

My daughter has on a few occasions been driving in front of my car or in on-coming traffic. She has told me that the HID's are very bright from the perspective of other motorists. I've been flashed many times on low beams.

There are a few threads on this forum where people have replaced the bulbs in their headlights with other aftermarket bulbs. You might want to search for those and read them to see if these bulb swaps were of any value. Also, there is a sticky FAQ post that covers common topics and I believe there is something in it on headlights/bulbs.
