Default option packages

I just purchased a 2012 RX FWD dealer owned. Is there a way to decifer what option package the car has. I tried to figure it out from the limited package descriptions I found on line but there seems to be too much over lap for me to make a positive determination.

I was wondering if there was a way to look up the vin number?

No, the VIN number does not contain this information. Stop by your local Lexus dealership and see if they can print out a copy of the window sticker for your vehicle.

I can probably help you figure out what package you might have by answering a few questions. First off, do you have the navigation system? If so, you definitely have the premium package which includes the wood steering wheel, memory seats and power tailgate. You probably also would have the comfort package, but not necessarily. If you have the comfort package, you should have rain-sensing wipers(The wiper stalk will say "Auto" somewhere in the middle); you should have adaptive forward xenon lights that turn when you go around corners or turn onto a street at night. If you have the adaptive forward xenons, you should have the automatic high beam feature also. You should also have the 12-speaker stereo system with a subwoofer as opposed to the 9-speaker system if you have the comfort package.

There's also a luxury package that I would consider to be a top tier package on the RX. If you have this package, you will see the little washers below your front headlights for washing the headlamps; and, also, you should have the semi-analine(nicer leather) seats, although these seats may only be available on the RX450h; and possibly heads-up display, or possibly the upgraded Mark Levinson stereo system( I think this one has 14 speakers). It would say "Mark Levinson" somewhere around the radio control *****.

That's pretty much basically it. If you go down my list, I think you will pretty much figure out what package or packages you have. Good Luck, and enjoy your new Lexus!

Thanks!

It does have:

Navigation
Wood SW
Memory Seats
Heated/Vented (ha!) Seats
Power Tailgate
Rain Sensing wipers
Xenon (HID)
Auto High Beam
12 Speaker Audio
19” Wheels
Parking Assist
And also the Tow Package.

Does not have the ML audio, HUD or headlight washers.

I had the headlight washers on my 04 RX and that came in handy with the sloppy winter roads but I don’t have that problem anymore. The 04 also had the ML audio, that I liked and there is a difference even with my tin ear. Maybe I can do something to improve the 12 Sp system but that is not as high a priority as adding a hitch. I have the HUD in another car and it’s nice to have but I won’t miss not having it in the RX.

I do enjoy the ride, handling and power of the 12 over the 04.

CoastalRX, welcome to CL and congrats on your '12. It sounds like you have the premium, comfort and nav packages. Wood steering wheel and shifter were part of an accessory package. The addition of park assist and 19" tires leads me to believe your RX was specific to your region.

Moving from the 2nd gen to the 3rd gen is like driving a completely different vehicle. Like the ride, cavernous cabin with curved dash, gear shifter location. And new features like remote touch, iPod integration and bluetooth, the latter we missed out on by a year on our '04s.

I'd get comfortable with the manuals. Your test is next week

My 330 is still in the family, I gave it to my daughter as a graduation present. I promised it to her when we bought it and she never forgot. I was very sad to hand it over and even tried to discourage her with tales of poor gas mileage and costly repairs but to no avail. She used the logic of no car payments and safety along with something about a deal is a deal to pry it from my fingers.

But in with the new, this 12 has gone along way to make me feel better about handing over the 330 keys!

With so much new in the technology I’ve been spending quality time with the manual. I was surprised and very happy to find that it had the towing package. Even if I don’t do any towing, it’s nice to have the extra engine and transmission cooling here in Florida.

I’m really enjoying this car, I’m especially having fun with the voice commands!

I thought the VIN contained all that information.

If you pay the fee, one of the functions of this web site will return a description of the car based on VIN. I could be wrong and it's just a database based on the last numbers of the VIN.

The VIN only contains "some" of that information. It does not contain information on accessory packages, port installed options nor dealer installed options. The information of your VIN looks like this:

1st Character - Country
2nd Character - Manufacturer Code
3rd Character - Vehicle Type
4th Character - Body Type
5th Character - Engine Code
6th Character - Restraint Devices & Location
7th Character - Series
8th Character - Line/Make
9th Character - Check Digit
10th Character - Model Year
11th Character - Plant of Manufacture Code
12th - 17th Characters - Production Sequence Number/Serial Number

The only true way to get the full detail on what was installed on a vehicle from the factory is to get either the manufacturer or a dealer to print out the original window sticker. They need to maintain this information for recalls, service announcements, etc. No pay service has access to this information.

Great info, thanks!

I'll ask for the window sticker next time I have to bring it in.
