I have been going back and forth trying to figure out whether to
purchase a used car warranty for my 2010 RX 350. The dealer is
trying to persuade me, but I have been hearing good things about using
other warranty companies. What are your guys thoughts???? THanks much

Welcome to Club Lexus, carbuddy.

Nearly pure profit for the dealership. That is why they want you to sign up for the warranty. Plan on holding on to the vehicle for an extended period of time? Not much to go wrong. Some reports of water pumps going bad, but that is still a bit rare. Get the in-service date for your vehicle. That is when the factory warranty started. About six months before your warranty expires due to date or mileage get a thorough inspection.

Mods, this thread is perhaps better placed in the 3rd Generation forum for the 2010.

Welcome to Club Lexus. Did you purchase this vehicle at a Lexus dealership? What is the mileage of this vehicle?

OP, welcome to the forum. I hate to do this especially to a new member, but suggest you do a quick search on this subject - I can't bring myself to rewrite the same response for a 3rd or 4th time. There are several threads on this, including this one with the last post just a few days ago. My post #2 there will give you an alternative view, as I did purchase the Lexus Extended Policy on my 2013 RXh at time of purchase.

A couple of additional thoughts: I would NEVER purchase an alternative warranty other than the Lexus Financial version given a choice -- I've never been let down with the Lexus version. Yes, the Lexus version can be purchased up until the original manufacturer 4-year warranty expires on your vehicle, but it's refundable on a pro-rated basis if you get rid of your vehicle before the policy expires, should you want to lock in the price, total payment, or piece of mind now. As has been said, this can be a major money-maker for dealers with un-informed buyers -- over 100% from competitive alternatives in my recent experience. Look at my post cited above for at least one alternative to seek pricing via the net (there are a couple of prominent players, and you'll find more in other threads in this forum), which will likely save you hundreds of bucks if you buy via them, or at a bare minimum, use their quoted price as a negotiation point with your salesperson like I did. Good luck!

Thank you all for the warm welcome to Club Lexus! I truly appreciate all your insight for this decision I will be making this week. I dont think I will be going to buy the warranty thru the dealer. BertL, you have some good information in your post! THanks for that. Its between two different co's now and I'm looking at qcertified . Let me know if you guys have any other recommendations and thanks again!

I got my 8y 100k warranty for my rx from Jerry Johnson. Great deal! It is $800 less than what dealer quoted. Jerry is professional and very nice to talk to. Send him a message or give him a call.
