Thanks for the reply guys.

It looks like this topic has also been discussed in the past (not surprising). More info in the thread linked below.

Do you live in Valencia/Santa Clarita? The assumption is based your dealership being located there.
I drove once from Downtown LA to Valencia and it took me almost two hours to drive those 30 so miles… maybe it was just an extra bad traffic day, but that 5N, btw 405 and the 14 can get pretty ugly.

Hats off to you for making this drive daily.

@ DMC9114 I live in Valencia. My secret is to LEAVE Early and get Home LATE...and use the Prius.

I work 3 days in LA ( Keck ) and 1-2 days here in Santa Clarita area.
I never use 405 unless i really have to...
I use 5 or 210. ( 32.6 miles to be exact).

Good luck with your service schedules! Enjoy the RX!

Agree that the dealer can make a big difference. The wife and I have bought bought Lexi (is that the correct plural of more than 1 Lexus??) within the past 2 months (mine is 2013 Rx450h, hers is 2012 ES 350) from our Houston dealer. Both came with 24 months/25k miles "free" service. My previous experience with my 2008 Rx400h was that they would provide a loaner whenever I requested one, even for the "small" services, if I scheduled a day or two in advance. I'd drop off the vehicle around 7:30am and be in the office by 8:00.

^^ you can still go because the two free services are at 5000 miles/6 months, or 10,000 miles/12 months. So you can still go if you are under mileage as long as you meet the time frame

Just curious - has anyone been asked to pay for a loaner car?

We took our 2012 450H in for its 5,000 mile service and I was shocked when I had to pay $10 for a loaner car (they gave me a 2012 CT200h) at the local Lexus dealer, Stevinson Lexus of Frederick. It's not the nominal fee but the principle - I find it pretty unbelievable that I pay upwards of $60k for a car and then have to pay for a loaner when I take it in for service... By the way, this is my first negative experience at this dealer; they were exceptional during the sales process.

In my 19+ years owning Lexus, I've never been asked to pay for a loaner across 5 different dealerships in 4 states -- and with one exception, have always scheduled service (warranty and not) in advance and asked for a loaner at that point if I couldn't wait. I was once given a Hyundai of all things when they ran out of Lexus loaners many years ago, but always a Lexus since.

An additional note: As gas prices have risen and I suspect people have taken advantage of a good thing we had in the early days of Lexus, dealerships have been increasingly focused ensuring the tanks are filled back to point they were when rented out -- if not, it's about 50% more per gallon than the price at the local pump when it comes time to settle your bill. I frankly can't blame them, and just drop buy a station before returning the vehicle.

I agree that customers using loaner cars for routine maintenance should have no problem replacing the amount of fuel used. I do object when asked to replace fuel in a loaner when used to repair a factory defect which is under warranty. Often you are required to visit the service dept. at least twice, once to diagnose the problem and then again to replace the ordered part once it arrives at the dealer. You spend your time and the replacement cost of your fuel for a warranty repair, so whatever expense the local dealer incurs when supplying a loaner, should be reimbursed by Lexus Corp.

I have not had this experience at my Lexus dealer, but my Cadillac dealer charges $10 for fuel. You may get the car with a full tank, half a tank or whatever. They tell you to simply use the car and bring it back without putting any fuel in it or minimal fuel if necessary.

I have been charged for loaners for about 8 years already. At first, it was free, then it was 8 dollars but the SA would always cancel the charge, and now it is 10 dollars with no way of getting it removed from the bill. This is for gas money and not for the actual car.

I would venture a guess in that California gas prices are the highest in the nation

The clause saying you are responsible for the gas is in there when you get a loaner, but I've never been asked to pay for a loaner or the gas. They don't fill it as full as they used to though.

I just had a loaner last july 3. A CT200h. Since they're closed on the 4th, the agreed return of the loaner was the 5th 9pm. If i go over, i have to pay $65/day.
As for Fuel, i need to return the car with the same tank of gas otherwise they will charge me $4.09/ gal.

I have never paid for a loaner with Lexus..with Toyota though, i will have to pay for it the same rate as if i'm renting from enterprise or hertz. So with Toyota, i just use the free shuttle service.
