Default Windshield heat

Hi again,
Does anyone here notice that the black dash gets really hot while the rest of the interior stays relatively cooler? Has anyone used tint like Huber Optik clear on the front window. I am aware that tinting the windshield is not legal but I live in South Florida and it's hot and sunny most of the time.

I did have a BMW 750 iL that had a film that would not allow heat to get to the dash and it never got very hot as a result. I would expect that Lexus would have something too, you know, the relentless pursuit and all....

Anyone done anyting to cut the heat?

Thanks,
Ed

When I park for extended periods in the sun during the summer (which included my time in HI and AZ), I simply put up my sun shield like this in the window. I've never considered a permanent "tint" on the front window and have had no problem with cracking or other failures of the dash across 5 Lexus in 17 years, including my RXs with their massive windshields since 1999. I do maintain the dash with damp wipe downs every time I wash (just as I do my leather seats and other interior synthetics), and for the past several years have used Zaino Z10 every few months on the dash to maintain a nice semi-gloss look.

The front window has 100% UV block, but I do not know about IR. The huge dark dash is going to be a passive heat source when parked in the sun. I just use the great sun shade in the link above ... it is very effective.

Sun shade makes a difference, blocks off a ton of heat.

Default Thanks

Hi again,
Thanks for the input. I did see this shade and thinking about buying it. I was hoping that there was one that twists like a tent, Has that metal ring in it and when you twist it folds into a dinner plate sized piece and can slip between the seat and console. I have one now but it is that grey material and only blocks the light and none of the heat. I can't understand why someone does not make the foldable unit with the reflective material.

I used to have one of the twistie-versions you mention, but have not seen them in most of the online catalogs for years. It' was more compact, but given it's round, did not cover the outer corners and died after a couple of summers given it's design. ...and as you say, it does not do as much to keep away the heat as the roll or accordian fold-up versions do. Good luck with your pursuit.

Another black interior RX owner here. I'm using the circular twisty sunshade right now Think I bought it at Wallymart years ago. I like being able to hide it under the rear seats which is already a tight space because of the hybrid batteries. Still I'm thinking about changing over to the foldable kind. Sewell has one for $25.

Besides being illegal, I'm not sure whether UV film will interfere with the auto headlights, HUD or other features.

Went with the light gray interior on my 2013 Rx450h and it feels much cooler than the black leather on my Rx400h. The twisty sunshade made all the difference in the world on my 400h!

Another Black on Black and with 105 degrees here lately it's killing me. I bought 2 sunshades from Wallymart and it does NOT fit well at all.

Can someone confirm that the one Sewell sells will fit every corners of the windshield (pics would be nice hihihi)? Thanks in Advance.

I bought one at autozone for 14.99, SUV size and it covers the whole windshield. Car stays cool completely under the sun, also the white color and the tan seats help a lot. I used to have the smoky granite with black leather and that thing was an oven even with the sunshade up.

I got one from Sewell and it is a perfect fit. The worst part of it is the size when trying to roll it up.

Thanks for the tips BUT that pic is from 2nd IS series, not the 3rd RX series though.

You can go to ebay and look up Lexus RX sunshades. The sites listed illustrate windshield coverage. Prices also seem to be pretty competitive.
