Default scratch on rear bumper lip

I was parking without noticing the left side....the scratch is on the rear bumper lip (I really do not know how to describe this black plastic cover). By doing some research, it seems that this lip cannot be ordered separately. It shows in one assembly diagram that it is a unibody with the cover above. I bet some of you have done some work on the bumper, is it true that the lip is not independent? If so, can anyone give some advice on how to fix this? THX a lot!

It does look bad...is the color black?..or dark grey?...the most difficult part would be matching the exact color regardless which one is....I don't know if Lexus will sell the paint in spray can (I doubt it) ...try this place they may be able to help in matching the paint color...

I would mask the white paint and isolate it from any overspray and lightly sanding the roughness in the plastic (if any) with a 320 sand paper or lighter like 220, then after thoroughly cleaning the area, spray painting with long strokes as to overlap the rest of the grey or black....if not satified, then I woul mask the complete are of white side to side and then spary the whole front, again using long strokes. I don't know if you have ever try painting before, but I have become an expert since I do have an old Mustang" and I did my own touch uos etc,,good luck to you

Hi svofan1, thanks for replying. This part is plastic, i believe it is black. Do I still have to paint since there is no paint on it? Or sanding is enough?

That part is one with the bumper. If you look closely you can see that Lexus taped it off and sprayed it with that coating. They used to sell that black bumper/ plastic touch up/ restorer in the auto parts stores, you might want to check that out. All else fails, flat black spray paint. Good Luck.

...yes you need to paint it since the sanding will not give you a finish effect...that is just to make smooth before painting...sometimes a coat of primer is need to hide the imperfections..

Read through this long write-up for a possible solution

Then look up SEM textured coating. To make it look right with this method, you might need to do the whole piece of trim from wheel well to wheel well.
