I sometimes put the gear shifter in neutral to make the idle more muted when I'm stopped at a stop light.
That's one of the reasons I went with the hybrid - that dead silence when the car is at "idle" is really nice. But even when the gas engine kicks in from a dead stop, as long as I am not trying to get to cruise speed really fast, I can hardly hear any engine sound.

I checked the oil and it seems fine but it definitely got louder since yesterday. I can feel vibrations all throughout the car. Im gonna take it to the dealer Friday.

Filled up a fresh tank of gas and now the engine has calmed down. The crazy vibrations are gone. I'm thinking it was bad gas. I've never filled up at that station before and mostly likely never will.

I am finding the 2012 to be quiter than the 2010. Maybe due to the engine being tuned down for regular gasoline.

About the RX's engine noise at idle, it is somewhat loud. We can't even hear our '03 Solara's engine at idle or my friend's '11 Honda Pilot.

Default Engine noise

Does anyone else notice the engine noise is quite loud in the new RX? We came from an 08. Both I and my wife notice it's quite loud when we start moving. We have a 15 model. Is it normal? Is there anything I can do to reduce this?
Thanks.

Good to see others' comments. We felt the same on our 15 model. It's definitely more noticable compared to our 08. My inital thought was normal but it was quite annoying for the wife. I was hoping someone might have a solution for this. IMO it might be the isolation since we both didnt notice this on the Demo GX. But like someone else said it everything else makes up for it.

Loud as in? What are you comparing the sound to?

Other 3rd Gen Rx's with yours being defective?

Other SUV's?

Jet plane?

Hard to establish a reference point with your post above in order to provide feedback.

I haven't driven a 2RX is recent history so I am not sure how quiet they are in comparison to the 3RX. All I can say is that we find our '13 RX to have minimal engine noise. Yes, there is some upon acceleration, but it's not intrusive at all, and quickly disappears once you're cruising along.
