do you have to ask for 0w-20?

In all likelyhood they put in the required 6.5 liters and then charge out the 7 liters because the seal is broken on the 7th bottle and can no longer be sold as new. I know they dont throw this oil away so every two oil changes the dealer makes a free liter of oil. Its the same as places that top up your washer fluid and then charge for the whole bottle. Added revenue stream.

I don't know about Canada, but down here, all the dealers I know of just call the parts dept and have so much oil charged to a particular RO, then grab the hose and the parts dept has digitally sent the specified amount and type of oil through the hose (comes from a barrel). Some techs even do it through their wireless 'pad' device.

Yes, an overfill can be detrimental if in an extreme quantity. My oil level was ~ 1/2 inch above the full mark. According to the Lexus advisor, that is ~ 1/2 quart above full. He said it would not cause any problems if that is the case. The distance between the minimum and full mark on the dipstick is 0.9 inches which I assume equals a quart; so 1/2 " would be ~ 1/2 quart as the advisor mentioned. In reading various blogs, they mention that a person should really not have anymore than 1 quart of overfill.
I am thinking that some dealers put in 7 quarts which is an overfill when it should only take 6.5 guarts with a new filter.

That being the case, a 1/2 inch overfill above the full mark is 0.9 quarts based on the distance between the two marks (0.9 inches in length). Since this is almost a quart above full, I will use a small plastic tube to pull some oil out of the dipstick tube to get the excess out.
A red flag should have come up when I first saw on the service invoice that 8 quarts were used in the oil/filter change.

In looking more, I found that the difference in the minimum and full mark on the RX dipstick is equal to 1.6 quarts per the manual (see p.490 in the following file):

Why not do the easy thing and remove the drain plug and use the gift of Gravity to take some off the bottom end of the pool?

I have a small hand held siphon pump and believe it will work to get it out of the dipstick tube. If it does not, the drain plug will be utilized. If I were closer to my dealer (75 miles away), I would have him do the work.

Would another option be to open the top cap of the oil filter housing, and push the spout that comes with a new oil filter into the hole in order to drain some oil......maybe less mess than opening and closing the oil drain plug???

I used the hand held siphon pump, but only got 0.4 quarts removed as only a 1/4 inch diameter plastic tube will fit down the dipstick tube opening. It takes a lot of pumping to get 0.4 quarts up that diameter of tubing. Based on measuring the before and after amount over the fill line, I am still 0.5 quarts over full. For anyone that is interested, 0.4 quarts was equivalent to ~ 0.25 inches on the dipstick. Rather than get under the vehicle and drain, I will leave at that level and assume it will not cause any harm.

removing oil
Sounds funny; but I had an over fill on a car once, and I had a 50 foot long piece of plastic tubing used for the ice maker on a refrig that was not close to water, and I sucked a whole quart out! I did it when warm so even thinner and with all that length didn't get any in my mouth of course...a funny memory.......

Just thought I would report in since we just took the car for in the 5k miles check up. The schedule doesn't call for an oil change unless you drive under extreme conditions but I requested for an oil change (out of pocket) and when I got the write up, it does document 0w-20 viscosity. I asked my SA about the oil and he said that the tech would know which viscosity to use based on the car information that was provided.
