A couple weeks ago, our new 2012 RX350 was parked in our garage with the doors closed.

My wife and I heard a soft faint buzzing sound somewhere in the garage, but thought maybe it was the electric garage door opener.

Tonight we heard it again, and thought maybe it was coming from our new RX.

I got the fob, started the RX up, shut it off and the buzzing stopped.

Anyone have any suggestions before I call our Lexus dealership?

It's hard to tell were on the RX the sound is coming from, front or back.

 

This has been noted before on the forums if you do a quick search. It has to do with the exhaust system on the RX and emission controls. completely normal

 

Exactly. It also is documented in the owner's manual. Mine usually occurs about 4.5 - 5 hrs. after the vehicle has been driven. It is alarming until you know what it is.

When my headlight switch is set to AUTO, after I shut off the ignition and get out of the car, I also notice a buzzing sound coming from the front of the car until the headlights automatically shut off. Anyone notice this? Is this normal?

 

Yes, I have the same noise with the headlights. Part of the Xenon phenomenon.

It's interesting, I have read so many times in this forum about the buzzing noise that the emissions system makes. After almost 2 years and always in the garage working or cleaning my RX, I have yet to hear this noise.

 

I wonder if you don't hear it more often in areas with a wider range of ambient temperatures? Just wondering.
