Is the RX 350 Overkill
Ok before I get flamed, I 100% agree that our RX 350 is a best luxury SUV to date..............BUT,
do you ever get the feeling that some of this luxury is overkill and it's making us fat and lazy?
Example:
#1.....The audible control for volume and station control located on the steering wheel when the complete audible control center is less then 6 inches from the steering wheel.
#2.....Three ways to control the power rear hatch!!!!........
.......Heaven forbid if we had to reach up and pull the rear hatch door down manually.
#3......Why can't I get a RX WITHOUT a moon roof without waiting 6 weeks for a special order?
I mean, I never drive with the windows open because it's noisy, why add the 5th window, I can see if it's sunny or overcast through the winshield.....
#4......For the price of all that luxury give us better side ding protection for the doors like the older RX300 were with bottom cladding. Doesn't set a style trend I guess........
#5......Separate climate controls??? Doesn't the cool/heated air eventually get mix/combine together in the cabin any way??
#6......Ok here's one, Voice climate activation when the manual controllers are right in front of your nose.
#7......Image years back when we manually had to lock each door and manually roll down every window.
Do you agree with any of this ????

that's the only explanation i can think of why you have so many questions, some of them i find rhetorical.
Most of the "issues" you pointed out are present even in none luxury cars/SUVs,
the controls on the steering wheel for audio, bluetooth, phone etc. You can buy a honda civic or a toyota camry and they offer that feature.
the automatic tail gate opener is not exclusive to Lexus or to a luxury vehice.
Tahoe, Yukon Denali, Suburban, Durango, etc all have that feature.
and Americans are getting heavy because of our lifestyle choices. i myself go to a gym 4-5 times a week, and that's the same amount of exercise i prescribe to my patients.
On the other side of the spectrum is the government cutting funding for important classes like Physical Education.

i can't wait to hear your thoughts about a " microwave".. yeah that thing that makes heating food easier.. compared to the Oven.
here's a car that you might like

Example:

Safety. Makes it so you don't have to remove your hands from the wheel while driving.
#2.....Three ways to control the power rear hatch!!!!........
.......Heaven forbid if we had to reach up and pull the rear hatch door down manually.
It's kind of nice to not have to get out in the rain to open and close the tailgate. Or be able to open the tailgate while running to the car in the rain. Or not have to reach up and pull the hatch down while holding a child.
#3......Why can't I get a RX WITHOUT a moon roof without waiting 6 weeks for a special order?
I mean, I never drive with the windows open because it's noisy, why add the 5th window, I can see if it's sunny or overcast through the winshield.....
This is making you lazy? The moonroof allows much more light into the cabin during the day. It makes the cabin feel larger. You sound like the guy complaining about the skylights in his house because he never opens them.
#4......For the price of all that luxury give us better side ding protection for the doors like the older RX300 were with bottom cladding. Doesn't set a style trend I guess........
People hate cladding. There's a reason it went away. It was hideous and was only useful for cars that were actually taken off road. Get Body Side Molding and you'll get all the protection you need.
#5......Separate climate controls??? Doesn't the cool/heated air eventually get mix/combine together in the cabin any way??
No. The separate climate controls are so that people can set the temperature of the air blowing out at them. This is nice for when I'm hot and my girlfriend is cold. I turn mine down, she turns her's up, and I get to feel cold air blowing on my face, keeping me comfortable, while she stays warm and cozy.
#6......Ok here's one, Voice climate activation when the manual controllers are right in front of your nose.
This is stupid.
#7......Image years back when we manually had to lock each door and manually roll down every window.
No. Because now you're just being pathetic. These things really important to you? I can sell you a 1989 Corolla that has manual windows, door locks, climate control, no steering wheel controls, no cd player, no moonroof, no heated/cooled seats...no frills whatsoever.

I have power folding mirrors and illuminated door sills. I am the fattest and laziest of them all.

JK. But, in all seriousness this is a luxury vehicle with luxurious features. What did you expect?
I didn't realize this was going to become a hog pile on GRPFAN.

For you to imply my chauffeur is fat and lazy is insulting! He is not lazy. "Jeeves take me to McDonalds"
Example:
#1.....The audible control for volume and station control located on the steering wheel when the complete audible control center is less then 6 inches from the steering wheel.
Audible controls...oh here I agree. Those buttons are killer on my manicure and those darn pedals that makes the car go and stop are so far away. I'm glad they put the go and stop thing on the steering column.
#2.....Three ways to control the power rear hatch!!!!........
.......Heaven forbid if we had to reach up and pull the rear hatch door down manually.
Oh heavens you forgot the best way to open the hatch, the phone application. InRBigness and I traded passwords and I open his hatch in Canada and I give him a call and he opens my hatch in Iowa. So much easier. I don't even have to leave the couch. "now hand me the potato chips"

How in the heck am I to get a tan? Not enough time to go to the beach, when I have to go shopping all the time! Can't get a tan from those lights in WalMart!
#4......For the price of all that luxury give us better side ding protection for the doors like the older RX300 were with bottom cladding. Doesn't set a style trend I guess........
Good grief, I've explained this before. When I get up off the couch, brush off the potatoes chips and go out and tell the chauffeur to detail the car, he doesn't have to take the time to buff around moulding. Just up and down, right and left and he's down.. Gee haven't you heard of economy of motion!
#5......Separate climate controls??? Doesn't the cool/heated air eventually get mix/combine together in the cabin any way??
Oh my gawd man, haven't you heard of menopause!!
#6......Ok here's one, Voice climate activation when the manual controllers are right in front of your nose.
I suppose if I could operate the controls with my nose, that would be okay. But I can't move my head for the double chin and I sure as heck can't reach the controls from the back seat. I need voice controls. You don't expect me to listen to the same stations as my driver. I mean really how many times do I have to listen to the "Cable Guy" tell fat jokes? "Lexus, channel 107, it's time for Dr. Laura..."
#7......Image years back when we manually had to lock each door and manually roll down every window.
Imagine, I don't need to imagine. My administrative assistant booked a rental car for me last week. Oh my gosh, it didn't have head up display and I had to bend my neck to look at the navigation display. I had to see a chiro after that trip.
Do you agree with any of this ????
Good grief I'm confused. Ya want power steering, but ya want build up your arms. Ya can't have both!!!
Now moderators, stop this hog pile before someone gets hurt. "Lexus... destination McDonalds, temperature 72 degrees, speed 70 MPH, moon roof open, seat angle 110 degrees, channel 96..."
I'm hungry, I'm cold, I'm in a hurry, I need some fresh air, I wanna sit back and it's time for the Cable Guy.

Sorry GRP but you got 'flamed'.
Before I get flamed I have to agree with you on these features. Some are redundant and maybe unnecessary but while they were programing the voice command they might as well add it all.
It's all these thing that make up the RX and why I bought it. I enjoy every luxury feature the RX has to offer. I am 6'1" and weigh 170 lbs. I didn't buy the RX for exercise.
