Joe, there is no easy answer you can get from here unless someone chimes in that has had the problem, it became worse, and they were able to get Lexus to offer repair.

The bottom line and what you should find comfort in is that if your car is under warranty and the engine goes south, Lexus is very good about honoring repair. If it is indeed something that's common in a certain percentage of engines and does not cause reliability issues then yours is just one of those. Nothing more, nothing less.

If it were me, I'd just watch it and not spin the forum up on an issue that seems to have history of being an issue without severe problems. If you want to keep talking about it, then I'd suggest your dealer and service manager will bring more satisfaction then any of us can do. And as a side note, be **** about making sure all of your service is done on schedule and by a competent facility. Document, document, document, for your protection.

If you do get something done, then I'm sure we'd all like to know the 'Rest Of the Story' as the late Paul Harvey would say .

The "piston slap" was not present at lower mileage. Its present now. There must be some clearance between piston and cylinder wall. (some wear). I feel that there will be more clearance at higher mileage. Do you agree?

Default knock knock? Who's there? not every knock is a "knock"

"knock" [within quotes] of an engine is pre-ignition of fuel, which causes a small detonation, milliseconds before the right/proper ignition. There are knock sensors that recognize this and the ECU looks for them within the millisecond time zone before spark. Rest assured if there is "engine knock", you will get a Check Engine light if the ECU can not adjust the spark. In other words you do not have a "engine knock" if your CEL is not lighting up.

If it is not "engine knock" but you are hearing a knocking sound, then there is something else that is creating that mechanical sound. This sound can be normal and also can indicate a problem. I would let the mechanic trace it by mechanics stethoscope.

And that sounds like the normal start up rattle everyone has complained about in countless threads on this forum. It is nothing to worry about regarding the life of the engine. It is a Toyota/Lexus thing.
Some have attempted to minimize it by changing the oil more often and trying different brands of oil.
