Default 2010 RX350 - 20k miles service

The dealer charges $165 for 20K miles service. This service includes oil change and tires rotations.

Is it justified? Are you doing it yourself?

If the two service items you mentioned constitute, I would highly recommend you do them yourself. The Rx is a back to front tire rotation (AWD) and a oil change costs me <$50.00 using 0-20w Mobil One Synthetic oil & OEM filter.

I plan to do myself. I did the 15k ans the dealer dis the 5k and 10k for Free of charge.

How many quarts of oil does it need? I added 6 quarts of oil and an oil filter from Sewell for $57.48 shipped. Are 6 quarts enough?

Check with your local Toyota dealer. I had my 30k done there for $229 which was less than 1/2 of what Lexus initially wanted. I got them down to $399 but still wasn't close enough. And the Toyota store said their normal price on the Highlander 6cyl was $69 for an oil change and same for me. They use the 02w20w oil.

Thanks, Cruiter, but your post came a little too late. I placed the order with Sewell already. 7 quarts of 0w-20 (better have extra than being short), an oil filer and a gasket for about $66 shipped. I am being "cheap" to save $100. It only takes me an hour max.

GoHuskers,

Good thing you got extra oil because the oil capacity for the Rx350 is 6.5 quart.

FYI for the future, my Lexus dealer quoted me $160 for this service also (I was just asking, my car only has 3,000 miles on it). But, the dealership also has some coupon specials and similar offers that I can take advantage of ... lowering the cost down to about $60. So you might find out if there are deals at your dealership also. If they have an email list, get on it for service specials.

If you think about it, even $160 is pretty cheap given these longer service intervals.

Over the past few months, WalMart is stocking 5 qt containers of 0-20W Mobil 1 synthetic; current pricing is $26+/container. Using 6.4 quarts with OEM filters bought in bulk make the oil change a reasonable $40 or so.

I had Walmart change the oil in my 2004 RX the last 5 years that I owned it. They did a very good job and I never had any problems with my vehicle. I see you're in VA, I'm in Northern Va, how about you?

Forgot to add that I plan to continue with Walmart for my 2012 RX, once my warranty is out.

This has been a very economical approach that my daughter has used for the past few years with her ES. She buys the oil in the Walmart auto supplies area (to get the specific type of synthetic that she uses and possibly a sale price) and has them install it in the service area. I thought she told me that this was resulting in a final cost of something like $45 ... at any rate, it is a good deal in my high cost of living area.

If my dealer will do it for that price, it is all theirs. By the time you buy everything and then have to discard the old oil it makes more sense. Plus they do the rotation which you would have to take it in for anyway. There is also full service documentation encase there ever is a warranty problem.
My problem with taking it to places is usually they make a mess all over. My dealer did not do this, it came back spotless. I will have to see if they can match that price.
I changed my oil myself at 2500 miles since it was during the break-in period. I used 6 qts of oil. The stick read right in the middle between full and low. Not sure if that half a quart is going to make a difference, I doubt it.

Default Documentation of "Owner" provider services

I may be redundant with my comment but, in just in case, one can use the "Lexus Driver Services website to post/maintain documentation of any owner provider services. Of course, the website includes those services performed at the dealer.
