I was at the Dealership yesterday making my 10k appointment and talking with one of the salesman. He has been with Lexus a long time and stays on top of the upcoming models. He told me that Lexus does plan a mild freshening for the 2013 model. He said it would consist of new headlights with the built in LED running lights and a rework of the grille to more resemble the new GS. He indicated that might put off a total redo until 2016 otherwise it is due for 2015.
i'm a little doubtful with information coming from sales rep.. whether they're Lexus or AT&T cellphone reps.
They're "SALES" people and their guess is as good as yours.
Most of the times, you"ll find more credible information here in the forum.
i often find myself with a lot more knowledge than the sales guy when i walk into a showroom/tech store.
You should have asked him about the RX-F instead.
Now, if you say that he is a part of the Design team or works for the plant.. then it's a different story.
Five to six years has been the norm for the RX - '99 for 1st gen, '04 for 2nd gen and '10 for 3rd gen. And they were available the prior year so the numbers aren't off.
^ the issue was never about the number ( YEAR)..
i predicted the change in the 2012 Toyota Camry since i own a 2009 Camry SE.. it's simple math.
THE details of the refresh/redo is what i'm after for.
Here's a concrete example, dealers here in South California were not able to predict/forecast whatever you want to call it the removal of the LEXUS emblem from a 2010 to a 2011.. ( when they were asked prior to the release of the 2011s) and that's a very simple change.
and NOW i'm suppose to believe that they have inside information about grill changes resembling a GS..
or they're just guessing as WE are guessing and trying to PASS as more knowledgable than the average Joe.
To be fair, if you look at the press releases for the 2011 Lexus models, it wont say that the Lexus emblem removed. It is such a small detail. Another example is the addition of back lighting for interior buttons. They wont include that and that is what I would assume is given to Lexus dealers and their sales people. Large things such as a reworked grill would probably be shared to dealers before anyone of us know.
It also only makes sense that the 2013 RX gets a refresh. Lexus loves to change out grills and wheels for the RX but I wont expect anything major
This salesman is not your typical salesman. He has been with Lexus for a very long time. He gets his info from corporate. You can believe it or not, I don't care.

President of Toyota, Akio Toyoda, mentioned during the 2013 GS launch event in August that Lexus would release 9 new or updated vehicles in 2012 (2013 model year).
See the video here. (That particular bit is ~6:55 in the stream.)
I talked to my sales guy today. He said the refresh was on target for 2013 too. But it would be the minor stuff like the grille or tail lights. I told him I'd wait for the F-sport instead which he said is coming Oh, and he's been at the dealer for 15 years. I'll talk to my SA to see what she knows when I'm in for service in two weeks. She's been there pretty much since the dealership opened over 20 years ago, the first in NJ.
