Default UOA for 2011 RX350

I ran across this thread today on BITOG. I'm not surprised at the sign of extra copper. I'm glad I changed the RX450h engine oil at 2k miles and then again at 5k miles to eliminate most of the copper.

What do you guys think? Would you still wait 10k for the first oil change?

I already changed mine @ 5k after the break in period and paid for it, so I'm having it done again for free @ 10k, and from there, I'll have the oil analyzed @ 15k to see how it's holding up.

Thank You for mentioning the thread on BITOG. The UOA referred to in that thread is mine.

RXs purchased in Canada have a 5k OCI. Thus I had to change it out at that time. There have been many debates about whether or not to change the factory fill early. As a Honda owner, they recommend that the FF be left in until the recommended mileage as the FF is also a special break-in oil (whatever that means). Lexus made no mention in the manual, thus I elected to change it out at 5000 miles/8000 kms.

I must admit, I was stunned at the high copper. I've had two other UOAs done on FF oil and have not yet seen copper levels so high. However, I won't hit the panic button just yet, but I will continue to do UOAs to see where the copper levels go from there.

The copper will definitely go down. It's nothing to be worried about, but I wouldn't want all of the copper in the oil for 10k miles or even 5k miles for that matter.

BTW: Welcome to Club Lexus!
