Default Gas Tank Capacity

The owners manual specifies 19.2 Gallons. I filled up the other day with the yellow light on and range at 10 mile remaining and could only put in 15.5 Gallons after one top off. Is this normal, I was expecting more like 18.

they provide you with a huge margin in case you really cant find any gas. also saves them money when you dont have to call roadside assistance.

We just picked up a new 2011 RX350 and I agree that when it shows less than maybe 1/8th tank it will barely take 15+ gallons. It's probably a good thing that it does that so you have a good cushion of fuel in the tank. It's nice to know that mine is not the only one that does this.

The fuel pump is in the gas tank and it uses the gas to keep the pump cool. You really need to think about putting gas in when the tanks get down to 1/4 or must put gas in when the light comes on and no so much of how far I can go after the light is on. I had to have a pump replaced and it makes a very loud noise when it is going bad. We pay so much for the car to have very little noise would hat to add it to the car over a few miles on this tank or the next. You got to fill up some time and at the rate gas is going up now is better than later.

Default Gas Tank Size of RX 350 2010

I thought the size of my RX350 2010 gas tank is 60L. Today I filled up with 63L; was there something wrong in the gas station meter ?

Thanks,

The car has 19.2 gal capacity = ~ 72.6 liters. So you filled up with 63L that definitely is normal.

Thanks for the reply.

One more thing: when the Low Fuel light on, the display shows about 25km left. Does it really mean only 25km mileage left to drive or there is some additional gas for some extra mileage ?

I'm not sure if 25km display is exactly 25 km of gas left. However, i won't drive until see the gas that low. Try to keep as full as possible, it will be better for the car.

There is no way Lexus is going to show the true range on the Range Remaining display. People would freak out if that counter went to zero and the car stopped. I'm not sure how many gals are left when it reads zero but I think it is in the 2 gal range. Try it out and then see how much fuel it takes.

According to the owner's manual when the fuel warning light comes on there is approximately 2.8gal (10.7L or 2.4Imp gal) or less in the tank. They do not say how much less really is.

I filled up today when there was 10 miles remaining on the Range indicator. Filling it to the brim took 16.54 gal, so if I would have run the Range down to 0 this would mean ~17.0 gal to fill it up (20 mi/gal around town). Specs say tank is 19.2 gal, so when the range gets to 0 you have 2.0-2.2 gal left in the tank, or 40 to 50 miles depending on how you are driving.

That really is deceiving. It would seem to me that range indicator should be a reflection of the actual quantity of fuel in the tank.

Nah, every manufacturer leaves some sort of reserve in the tank when the gauges read EMPTY. It's a safety factor.
