i have the same "trick"
in my case it's $35, and i always pay cash hence the additional savings in the pump (10 cents/Gal)

Default How far to empty

My Lincoln town car had this same guage and I always wondered how far it would go? So we call a car company to take us to the airport and the driver didn't know we drove one;;;his guage started screaming 10 miles to empty as he left our house 35 miles to the airport; I watched as it went to "O" and than flashed warnings and warnings as he drove 80MPH....just before we got to the airport he said he was "low" on fuel and wondered if we had time to stop; we said ok....so it definitely had at least 3 gallons left when it flashed empty.......would NOT want a luxury car driver to be stranded.....!!I suspect the same with Lexus and others!!

I will try to avoid running the tank down to a low level for the sake of convenience. The comments re fuel pump make good sense.
wife had a habit of bringing the car home w/ low fuel level light ON-we had a volvo XC90 which she parked on our inclined drive way, nose down-next morning XC90 did not start.
it started fine after I put about a gallon of gas I had (stored for the lawn mower)-the lesson is it may not be a big deal to run empry on fuel but may be
1 very inconvinient
2 may cause engine check light requiring trip to the dealer 2 ry to mis-fires
3 may leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere -VERY INCONVINIENT

I've run the counter down to '0' several times and each time I was able to put 17.2 gallons in the tank, just two gallons short of the stated tank capacity of 19.2 gal. How much of the two gallons is really available for use is unknown, but I don't worry that much when it hits '0', you have a bit of driving left in the tank to get to a station.

Smile Gas on RX 350 & Hybrid

This is what I found out. please, let me know if this helps to any readers out there. When you see low fuel on year Model 2011 and up on RX 350. Even if its, a Hybrid Model.
U got exactly 42miles before you are completely at Stop. I did a test drive and this is what I got. I was stop on the side while driving on highway. Don't worry I did prepare for 3GL Gas tank with me.
It was a Test drive I did. Hope this helps.

I admire your drive to get the number 42 .. but that can not be applied to all vehicles and even for yours.

Who ever owns the Hybrid ,,, the owner manual states that do not drive till the you run out of gas. [not sure if that statement is to ensure the owners dont count on electric battery/motor to get them further or it sets up a situation that the program controlling the the two power sources can't handle].

Ditto. Hybrid will do a soft-stop before running completely dry to prevent damaging the system. I learned the hard way in a Prius. And it becomes one heavy car to push once it runs out of juice. Boy, was I mad to find out there were still a couple gallons in reserve when I filled it up.

Default Gas tank size?

I know in the manuals and on websites they say the 2015 Lexus RX 350 has a 19.2 gallon tank, however tonight I made it to a gas station with 7 miles remaining, according to my dashboard. After fill-up the pump showed a total of 15.6 gallons, which means I'm really working with a 16 gallon capacity. Is there something wrong with my gas tank? Has anyone else tried driving until close to empty and can verify they have a 19.2 gallon tank?

I understand the need to know the exact capacity, but the usable capacity is different. The pickup point is not at the very bottom. The tank has baffles to give it strength and that creates little pools of non-usable gas.

For longevity of fuel pump, it is best to keep it above 1/3 tank.

The car will continue for about an additional 70km after it says "0km distance remaining". It's overly forgiving in that respect and it is 19.2 USgal
