I honestly think it would be hard for Lexus to loose customers just based on the exterior design.
personally, if the new RX40h look like the new SRX, I wouldnt have bought it.

I havent seen too many new SRX around here in the New England either, and everytime I see one, it is driven by a female.
Well, to each his own - that is why there are so many styles and makes of cars. Back to the original reason for this post - I think Lexus COULD change up the RX enough to be noticeably fresh, different and still obviously a Lexus SUV, and while I think they might alienate some people (it always happens), overall I think it would be a net positive for them. Geesh - they certainly have enough money to hire some desiners who could do that.
Using Lithium battery to save about 200 lbs and increase 13 more HP. Total output would be 310 hp.
Dual Exhaust
More interior leather colors.
Updated front and rear bumpers

ggravant, Lexus almost alienated me with the 3rd gen. But I remembered what I initially thought about the 300 (butt ugly ) until I drove it. The big hippo grew on me So did the 450h.
I'm just not getting what you want Lexus to do with the RX to 'make it fresh' yet retain the Lexus look. They have done that through the years.
Since I have a 3rd gen Dodge truck - I have some familiarity with the opinions of owners as Dodge changed from the 2nd gen to the 3rd gen to the 4th gen (pics below). The 1994 second gen was WAAAAY different than the boxy first gen trucks and did great when it came out and put Dodge back in the ballgame with truck sales. Then when the 2002 third gens came out - everyone hated them at first, then after a while it was was even more popular than the first gen (the Hemi helped as well). Then again in 2009 when the 4th gens came out it was the same deal - hate then like. In all three gens they are obviously Dodge trucks, but very easy to pick out as being different.
I also bring this up because the Dodge truck is as important (possibly even more so) to them as the RX is to Lexus so the risks of a failure are significant.

I am sorry ggravant, as a non-Dodge Ram truck owner, all three truck looks very similar to me. Kind of the same evolutionary design as the RX. I think the new Tundra made more design changes than the Dodge Ram did, although the redesign did not help the Tundra's sales numbers too much.

From my observation here in New England, the last two gen was driven mostly by females and the current gen is about 50/50.

I think the Tundra change was equivalent to the gen1 to gen 2 Ram change. The gen 1 tundra was sort of a 7/8ths full size truck vs the gen 2 which is now a full size. I think the new Tundra is selling well relative to the old version, but the full size truck market is a tough nut to crack. To me, it is more interesting to see what Toyota does gen 2 -> gen 3 with the Tundra. Same goes for the Nissan Titan. I personally like all the latest pickup trucks and if I decided to get a new one I would give them all a fair evaluation. I am a fan boy of no car company
I personally did not care for the look of the 2nd Gen RX, too eggy. I felt they had made enough changes to it to give it a slightly more aggressive look. Not the best looker on the lot but reliability was a major consideration. Plus the interior is light years ahead of the other SUV's. I wish Lexus had stuck closer in looks to their prototype. Maybe Gen 4.

One of the reasons I will look at other manufactures is the fact that the '11 looks like the last 4 or 5 year models.
Do you think they would sell more vehicles if they changed the looks? It worked back in the day.
