So I come back from service at my church to find that my 2010 Lexus RX 350 has been broken into! First, the person tried to smash the front window but was unsuccessful. Then went to the rear window and smashed it and took by wife purse. Lord have mercy! Well good thing no one got hurt and that's what insurance is there for.
Got a question. How would you guys suggest I go about replacing the windows under insurance. It seems like the front driver window is a special type of glass because the robber could not smash it and actually hit our side view. Should i call the lexus dealer and try to see who they use? How do I make sure the tinting is not off? Any suggestions would be helpful.
Sorry to hear that buddy. You might wanna give your Lexus dealer a call. I got mine replaced at my dealer through insurance. Just tell your insurance that u want to have it done at a Lexus dealer. Good luck
The front window is double-layer to deaden road noise. I remember my tinter commented on it when he was tinting my front windows.
I'm sure you know now, but never, ever, leave anything of value in plain sight--especially in this economy. If anything stick it in the back with the cover, but try to not let anyone see you putting it in the back.
Sorry to hear bout your rx, like clickart said call your lexus dealer, don't forget to ask for brand new oem parts only, some insurance company can and will ask for non oem, keep in mind you are going to pay your deductible no matter what so check everything your paint, door panel, some maybe damaged by pieces of broken glass.
Sorry to hear about the incident. I hear more and more of these things happening.
I have glass coverage on my RX so no deductible for windows or tail/ headlights. I also made sure they let me chose OEM glass. Met Life does for the first 2 years that the car is new. After that I would have to pay the difference if after market glass is available. I have the Heads up Display and did not want an after market product with that. The Dealer is a good place to go if not, they can always refer you to some one like they did for me.
It should be noted too, the front driver's and front passenger's glass have a special exterior coating for water repelling. OEM is going to be your best bet.
Sorry for your misfortune and best of luck with the repairs.
I'm sorry for your situation. As our country goes down the drain these situations will get worse. You should have the glass replaced through the dealer with genuine lexus glass. If the car is relative new and low miles your insurance will pay. Many states have full glass coverage for about $18.00 a year. Look into it. Also look at this
I would specify OEM glass no matter where you got it fixed, and hopefully you will get a decent deal. Some insurance is better than others as far as reimbursement for OEM glass replacement. I assume that a surveillance camera at the church or a nearby business in close proximity to the break-in was not available for the police to look at ? A shame that a percentage of our population does this to survive their lifestyle.
Hey guys
Thanks for all the encouraging posts. We all know not to leave valuables visible but it happens. All I care about is that no one is hurt and everything else is replacable. Here are some pics to feel my pain
Good news is that I did in fact go to Lexus and they are taking care of me right now. Loaner car and will be working with my insurance. Of course all OEM parts through lexus nothing less.
I think i will look into that lexus sensor thing for 200 bucks and as well as window replacement insurance.
Thanks for everyone input. All is well. Life goes on.
I am so sorry for this damage. I know it must be hard to look at. When I first moved to MD the sniper was attacking at the time. We were driving down a main road and the back window on our MDX got blown out. We really thought we had been shot it. There were ten cop cars there within 2 minutes of me calling it in. It ended up being a rock shot out from a commercial mower across the street. Thank God it hit two feet behind my son. We had it fixed at the dealer. I will though we did fine some small pieces of glass for six months or so every now and then.
@rchun8: Sorry for the incident happening to you. To be completely off-topic, what's that blue thing to the right of the sill plate at the bottom of the door opening, in the last photo?
That shows you how new this car was. Thats the laminate cover over the door sills that my wife hasnt taken off yet!
She's not the only one - all mine are still on, too.
I admit, I'm a bit eccentric about these kinds of things - I tend to leave all kinds of stickers on various products even after I've brought them home from the store.
that looks horrible. I wonder what they used to try to break the front windows. I dont understand why thieves dont just buy the instant window breaking tools that you are supposed to use in case you drive your car into water. And if they did, I wonder if it still works with dual layer glass.
