Lexus Sales for 2010
These are some quick numbers as posted by Automobile Magazine.
This is 2010 compared to 2009.
Lexus +7%
Winners
GX +164%, redesign paying off here, as with 4Runner twin
HS +60%, full-year figures look good, but recent numbers do not: down 41% in December, for instance
Losers
SC430 -54%
IS -10%
GS -4%
ES +1%
RX +3%
Interesting they call the RX a loser with a 3% increase in sales. I think any increase would be a good thing in this economy.

I assume that Lexus sales were dissapointing for the RX model in comparison to the competition, since the Luxury SUV sales were + 26 % over 2009 figures ?

GX is right, all new and even with recall surpasses sales figures
HS is actually a huge flop selling at 50% of its sales goal. It just up in volume b/c in 2009 it was only on sale for 4 months.
SC is discontinued until the new model comes, they are not building any
IS is only down 10% pretty good for an older car
GS is only down 4% awesome for an older car and 450h/460 are special order only
ES is flat which is good for an older car
RX is incredible and sold 95k units last year, no other luxury SUV is close
If anyone is interested here are sales figures. We do them every month.

In addition, looking at % increase/decrease in any one year maybe very misleading, and it is probably better to look at a few-years trend to get a better picture of the vehicle's relative status and competition comparison. If one looks at the Lexus RX vs. Acura MDX (which in the near past has been the nearest competition to the RX), the sales figures and % change from the previous year are as follows:
Year Lexus RX (% change) Acura MDX (% change)
2007 103,340 (------) 58,606 (------)
2008 84,181 (- 18 %) 45,377 (- 23 %)
2009 93,379 (+ 11 %) 31,178 (- 31 %)
2010 95,790 (+ 3 %) 47,210 (+ 51 %)
Change from 2007 - 2010:
Lexus RX: (- 7.3 %)
Acura MDX: ( - 19.4 %).
Year Lexus RX (% change) Acura MDX (% change)
2007 103,340 (------) 58,606 (------)
2008 84,181 (- 18 %) 45,377 (- 23 %)
2009 93,379 (+ 11 %) 31,178 (- 31 %)
2010 95,790 (+ 3 %) 47,210 (+ 51 %)
Change from 2007 - 2010:
Lexus RX: (- 7.3 %)
Acura MDX: ( - 19.4 %).

In reallity who cares on sales figures in general. I am happy with my RX and purchased it not knowing any of the yearly figures. I just looked at all my options and compared the vehicles themselves in relation to my family's needs. The RX won hands down for me.

I agree with that statement, but I imagine the car companies care a great deal about the sales figures. In 2002, I chose the Acura MDX over the Lexus RX300. In 2010, I chose the RX 450h over the 2010 Acura MDX. Tastes and selection changed over time for my preferences.

I hope they care enough to put out a good product. Looks like Lexus has done great for a while now except for that short period.
