What kind of mileage are you getting?

I've found the the warning light is tied to the gauge that that tells you how many miles you have left before being empty; and that it comes on exactly when it says 20 miles. At that point the gauge is almost at empty. And, when I fill up it takes about 15 gallons or so. There is no way the tank could hold another four gallons (more than 25% of the stated capacity) and still show almost empty.
What's the most number of gallons anyone has ever put in? Anyone put in more than 16?

I generally fill up when the gauge shows less than half. However, I was on the PA turnpike one time when the light came on and the miles remaining display moved under 20 miles and then stopped showing anything. I thought I was on fumes when I got off and hit the closest station. I could only get 14.8 gallons in, and I topped it up the neck. If the specs are correct, I should have been able to go another 60 miles. I don't have the guts to run it dry just to find out!!
After 6000 miles, my alltime average is 18.7. I do spend a lot of time sitting at stoplights though. Some tanks (some weeks with lots of highway driving and little traffic) I can get up to 21 on average. Now in the winter, it seems hard getting 18.
The manual says the tank holds 19.2 gallons. I've noticed multiple times that when the warning light comes on, if I fill up right away, I get in 17.2, so it seems programmed to come on with exactly 2 gallons left, not a set number of miles.

mine's a 2008 rx so not sure it applies here. ideally i like to completely use up every drop of gas in the tank before refuelling -- prefer not to have 'old' gas sitting around. realistically that's not possible without risking being being stranded somewhere. 2008 rx also have a 19-gal tank, and a few occasions i was able to get 18 gallons out of it before topping it up -- mostly i get 17 gallons.
in sequence, i noticed that the yellow warning light comes on first, then the remaining miles meter hits 0. that's when i make a mental note of the odometer reading to go another 10 miles before i decide to pull into a gas station -- that's usually around the 17-gal mark.
over time it's best to figure out what're your driving habits and your comfort level as to when you should refuel.

Anyway I got many times of 16+ when doing the refill. And, I had a few times that "miles to empty" showed 0. I guess, between the "yellow light on" and "miles to empty 0", the tank has about 1~2 gallons left. When miles to empty hits 0, you have another 1~2 gallons over there.

After a week of driving through unplowed Brooklyn streets, the gas mileage is at 11. RX has been excellent in a snow so far, even with crappy Bridgestones, but the mileage is plain bad for it's size.

First 1k miles, getting only around 18.5 mpg w/ mix highway & local driving..
Since then..getting about 19.5 mpg - 20.5 mpg on the same routes..
Last week we took a trip from northern california to southern california and only average 18 mpg..
Although we were carrying 5 adults and trunk was pretty full, I am still a little disappointed in the mileage...
BTW, low end torque might be the weak spot for the RX compare to other SUV..
We were climbing the mountain on our way to LA and the engine for a long strech of uphill was consistantly at about 4k rpm...

25 mpg
We usually get about 20 mpg of mixed driving around town and on freeways, mostly short distance trips. During new year holiday, we drove from center NJ to Baltimore and back, RX made the round trip in one tank of gas (~350 miles or so), and averaged 25.3 MPG. This was using #93 gas.

Extreme cold weather and driving in the snow doesn't help along with the winter gas. Hopefully after the car is broken in and its spring it will improve. My mileage appears to be improving after 2000 miles.

Just curious!? When we talk about 19.2 capacity in our tank, does this mean our tank has 19.2 gallons volume from the bottom to the cap? If so, we will never be able to fill up 19.2 gasoline there.

After about 1200 miles I'm getting 22 mpg - calculated base on miles and gallons put in the tank. 65% hwy miles. Noticed that the computed mileage by the RX shows 23 mpg.

I'm on my second tank (450h) and indicated miles has been climbing steadily to 26 from a start of 16.2. Have no idea what grade gas the dealer used so I'll start hand calculating with my next fill.

You can pretty much bet your dealer use the cheap stuff for that 1st tank. Our milage went up about 2 MPG after the 1st tank.
