Default Parking Break Issue

Hi,

I have recently bought a 2010 RX 350 and i am seeing an issue with the parking break..At my apartment, the parking area is kind of UPHILL, I stop the engine, apply the parking break and then i release the break pedal , after that i am seeing some motion with the vehicle, it is slightly going backwards, is that common? I doubt, if the parking break is really working?

Would appreciate any comments?

Thanks/KCS

with car running, park, make sure no car behind you, press in parking brake, make sure you do that as hard as possible. check again for clearance, put car in neutral, and slowly release brake. see if car rolls back. if there are resistance or if car doesn't move, then parking brake is working, just that you aren't doing it hard enough.

When we first got our RX the parking brake didn't hold very well. No matter how hard I pushed the brake its still slipped till it hit the transmission park pawl.

The remedy was quite easy though, took it to the dealer and had them adjust it. Problem solved.

One thing you will feel when on a steep hill is the back end will rise slightly one you let off the break pedal.

In order for any vehicle to pass safety inspection here in Texas the parking break is tested as follows:

Turn car on and keep in park
Apply the parking break
Step on the break and put car in "Drive"
Release the normal break
If the parking break doesn't hold up to a certain RPM car fails inspection
