Default How will TPMS work with new tires?

If the tire pressure monitoring system of our RX is wireless based with sensors inside the tire, what should one do if one buys a new set of tires? If it is ABS-based like some Audi and BMW which is software based, there is no problem. Anybody knows?

Or is the sensor attached to the wheels instead?

The sensors are inside the tires. New tires should not affect them. They usually charge for what they call a re-build kit for each one, have no idea what that consists of, other than seals.

How easy would it be to transfer the sensor to an aftermarket wheel?

I had to replace one of my front tires due to a damage in the sidewall picked up during this past winter's miserable weather. Had it done locally, tire pressure seemed to work fine and this was confirmed by the dealer when I was able to get to them and have it checked. So, no problem with tire replacement.
