My 10k service is free from the dealer I purchased, but if 15k service comes with an absurd tag, I have a friendly Toyota dealership nearby...
Sorry, but there is no such thing as a free 10k service. Trust me -- you paid for it, but just did not see the transaction.

I believe he didn't mean it's "free". Of course, we paid for it, it's part of the discount when negotiating the deal with the dealer. The final total "benefits" you have received from the dealer should include the discount off MSRP, so-called free maintenance services, accessories, etc. (My rep was going to give me additional $250+ off if I gave up the "free" 10k and other accessories.)

RX350's produced in the last 60 days are using synthetic oil. The RX takes 5 quarts and the dealer here is charging $7 a quart for the oil and the oil change is running about $90 total,

Owners manual states that the oil capacity is 6 qts w/out filter and 6.4 qts w/ filter change. This agrees with the recent invoice from my dealer that said 7 qts of 0w20 oil.

After the last two non-warranty service visits to my dealer, I really have to wonder about that statement. My 10K service was free because they couldn't execute an oil change and tire rotation within two hours of a scheduled appointment. It wouldn't have gone back at all after the 5K service rental car fiasco, but they put the oil filter cover on so tight (and probably cross-threaded it, though no one would say it) that my normal mechanic was afraid he'd break it trying to remove it WITH THE PROPER TOOL.

So, thus far Lindsay's service was awesome with my warranty bumper repair, less so with everything else.

Exactly, nothing is free in life, Lexus customer service, BMW's so called free maintenance or all those free bottle water and pastries in the waiting lounge, they are all figure into the cost of purchase or service.

Salty2,
I would appreciate it if you could let us know once you have done for your car. Also, do you (or anyone in the net) know whether the car warranty will be affected if you do oil change (or other maintenances) by yourself. Thanks.

there is no such thing as a free lunch.

Anyway, the oil change with synthetic is expensive--my 99 vette takes 5.5 qts and back in 1999 it cost 55 for a dealer oil change. Now it costs 75 at a local mechanic I trust.

So that plus an hour labor to rotate tires at say 75-100 and there is most of the cost--add in a cursory look at the car and you get your 10k service plus a bagel and cream cheese and coffee.

  • Engine Oil and filter
  • rotate tires
  • check and top off all fluids
  • Wash and vacuum

$119.95

I guess the 15K will cost more due to the replacement of filters and other stuff.
rxets, which dealer is this?

After I found out how much LI dealer is charging for RX10 5k service, I am looking elsewhere. Can you confirm this charge WAS for RX10, and there was no fine print and asterisks, etc.?

Thanks
