I agree.
While I was taking a second test drive, with my iPod plugged in, I thought the audio menus, from the radio and from the iPod, seemed very easy to read and to navigate, which was nice considering that the controller was new to me. This new control system does seem very well thought out and implemented.

Here's an update. When I test drove the '10 for a second time, there was no HDD menu tab on the car I drove. The brochure says nothing about putting your own files onto the HDD. In fact, I'm still not sure why the HDD is an advantage in this car; surely the NAV does not use it, or at least does not need to use it.
I did plug in my iPod and it worked very well; the car screen shows the same menus as on the iPod screen, so you can navigate to any playlist or category or track using the car's controls as you can using the iPod wheel. When plugged into the car, the iPod controls become inactive, and the only way to select tracks is through the car's controls.
I have no info on using a USB memory device. If this works as some reports say, then that would be a nice way to carry a few audiobooks around for long trips.
Finally, the rest of the car is excellent, too.

On the other hands, I still prefer to getting the HD built-in. I just like to save all my songs into it. They should also build the new interface for easy download as some other vehicles do.

The USB Feature is better than IPOD, I think. Because in IPOD, it starts playing the top song on its own in the play list, when play list is being browsed. however this does not happens in the USB browsing. Does any one know the biggest size of the USB drive can be recognized by the system?

The IPOD interface in my BMW is OK--however--I cannot scroll back or fwd on a song, nor can I access the podcast list. Also, I cannot get movies (or vidio) on my nav screen (or the playlist for that matter)
Does the RX system allow all of the above?

Dunno why, but it seems that Lexus or Lexus USA/Canada only import/feature part of features/functionality to us.

What a great find. I have 3 UBS Flash drives simply collecting dust, and now there is a great purpose for them. Copied a few folders, put UBS drive and ready to go.
Why do you need a HD in this case? For manufacturer, I would think its also not very cost-effective to offer it, considering the costs of 32GB flash drive are about $80, and going cheaper every month.

Those small HDs, used in laptops, can be powered through the USB cable, but only if the USB is the type that provides power to the device. Since the Lexus system will charge an attached iPod, and since a small USB HD is far less expensive than a flash drive, and since it can easily be brought to a big old fashioned steam powered desktop computer for file loading, this would be a convenient and very inexpensive way to add Gigabites of books, music, and podcasts to the car without even bothering with the iPod.
Let's hope somebody here has or acquires such a drive and tests it out. I have such a drive, used to back up my PS3, but I don't have the '10 RX, alas.

I did not mean in absolute dollars, but in dollars per megabite, the usual standard for measuring the cost of storage media.
As far as I know, flash ram is far more expensive than magnetic media bit for bit.
