2014 rx350 purchased a month or two ago had a couple of scratches on hood. My hope of filling with touchup paint was a dismal failure. They are not on surface but not real deep. Other than body shop any idea to clean this up a little? Thanks

 

Try to pour as much paint into the scratch as possible so that when it dries, it creates a raised area. After the paint has completely dried and hardened, sand it lightly and polish it with a polishing machine.
You can carefully touch it up using a toothpick and liquid paint poured into a bottle cap, for example.

 

That will take many applications of paint to make the repair level, really you need body filler. Use a credit card or similar applicator to apply the paint don't worry about extra getting on the surrounding area that will sand and polish off. Fill a bunch of times you'll get a decent result.

 

Some areas have mobile paint correction services who work at reasonable price.

I start with 1500 then 2000 after that I polish. But it depends on the paint if it's soft then sanding is risky will be easy to remove the clear coat completely. 3000 is super fine it will work very slowly you'll make better progress with a product like this (you need a machine polisher).

 

Do that. Then find car to practice on. Doesn't really have to be a car. Any painted metal will do.
You will learn masking, feathering, wet sanding (600, 1500, 2000), painting, clear coating, and wet sanding ( 1500, 2000, 3000 ). Then rubbing compound, polishing compound, and waxing.
By the end of your second practice piece, you may feel good enough to work on you car.
