Glad the options are increasing.

Can you please elaborate/confirm/give_guidance on:

1. Claim is that it covers 2009-2015 RX. Does the unit work with 450H variants of the same year range?
2. Claim is integrates seamlessly. Does the unit handle factory reverse camera image 100% of the time (without any hiccups or user based input)
3. Is there any time lag on startup?
4. Any information regarding standby current draw?
5. Love to see full disclosure ... exclusion fine print if any for the benefit of CL members.

Besides screen size, are there any major difference between this one and the 12.3"? https://www.carputech.com/products/1...b0a13ea4&_ss=r

It runs a different build of Android, and I'm not sure if the 10.25" one actually works with the Lexus joystick or ****. The 12.3" ones are all from the same factory in China, and Hamilton Motor Company (and lots of others on AliExpress) use the 12.3" model as their base offering, making customizations to the unit before marketing their own. CarPuTech does the same.

Hi Salim,

Thank you for your detailed questions. We appreciate the opportunity to provide full disclosure for the Club Lexus community. Here are the specifics regarding our 10.25" Linux System for the 2009-2015 Lexus RX:

1. 450h Compatibility: Yes, it is fully compatible with the RX450h (Hybrid) variants within the 2009-2015 range. The system is designed to interface with the Lexus hybrid communication protocols.

2. Factory Reverse Camera: Integration is 100% seamless. The unit is programmed to prioritize the factory camera signal via the CAN-bus. Whenever you shift into Reverse, the image will trigger instantly without any manual input or "hiccups." It also supports factory 360-degree camera systems if your vehicle is so equipped.

3. Startup Lag: As mentioned earlier, this is a Linux-based system, not Android. This allows for a near-instant boot time of 1-3 seconds. There is no "loading" lag; by the time you've finished shifting out of Park, the interface is ready to go.

4. Standby Current Draw: The unit features a sophisticated power management/sleep mechanism. Once the vehicle is completely turned off and the ignition is killed, the unit cuts power entirely after a short safe-shutdown cycle. The standby current draw is negligible (within the range of factory specs), so there is no risk of battery drain even if the car sits for weeks.

5. Full Disclosure & "The Fine Print": We believe in transparency. Here is exactly what changes and what stays:
  • What’s New: You gain a high-definition 10.25" touch screen, Wireless CarPlay, Wireless Android Auto, and USB Video playback.
  • What is Retained (100%): You lose zero factory functions. Your original Mark Levinson or base audio system, factory radio, steering wheel buttons, and the OEM joystick/mouse controller remain fully functional.
  • Original Vehicle Info: All original vehicle settings, climate control displays, mileage, and factory menus are preserved and can be toggled on the new screen instantly.
  • The "Trade-off": This is a Linux system focused on stability. Unlike our Android version, you cannot download apps like Netflix or YouTube directly onto the unit; it is dedicated to providing the most stable CarPlay/Android Auto experience possible.
We invite you to check out the product link for more photos and installation details:

Let us know if you have any more specific technical questions!

Aside from the physical size, the primary differences between the 10.25" and 12.3" Linux units for the Lexus RX (2009–2015) are centered on interior aesthetics and visual real estate, as the core software performance and features remain identical.

Core Similarities

Both units share the same high-performance Linux architecture, ensuring they perform identically in these areas:
  • Startup Speed: Both feature an ultra-fast 1–3 second boot time, so the system is ready before you leave your driveway.
  • OEM Integration: Both 100% retain all factory Lexus features, including steering wheel buttons, joystick/mouse control, reverse/360° cameras, and original vehicle info (A/C, radio, etc.).
  • Functionality: Both offer Wireless & Wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with identical resolution (1920x720 HD).

Key Differences

The choice between them usually comes down to how much you want to change the "look" of your Lexus dash:
  • Proportionality vs. Modernity: * The 10.25" unit is often viewed as more proportional and "natural" looking. It fits within the dash area more like a factory upgrade from a newer model year.
    • The 12.3" unit provides a more "Tesla-style" ultra-wide experience. It is much more striking and modern, making the interior feel significantly newer, though it has a larger footprint on the dash.
  • Ease of Use: The 12.3" screen provides larger touch targets and a wider map view, which can be easier to glance at while driving at highway speeds.
  • Reach: Some users find the wider 12.3" screen slightly easier to reach from the driver's seat due to its extended width across the center console area.

Great discussion! It’s important to clarify the "hardware vs. software" reality in this industry. While the physical shells and screen panels often come from a shared high-quality supply chain (as it wouldn't be cost-effective for every brand to mold their own plastics), the "brain" of the unit—the software and system integration—is where the real difference lies.

Here is a breakdown of how Carputech differentiates itself:

1. Linux vs. Android: A Dedicated OS

The units we are discussing run a dedicated Linux OS, not a mobile Android build. This is a crucial distinction:
  • 1-3 Second Boot Time: Our Linux units are optimized for extreme speed. By the time you've buckled your seatbelt, the system is live.
  • Stability: Unlike Android units that can lag over time, our Linux firmware is stripped of "bloatware," ensuring permanent, butter-smooth response.

2. 100% OEM Integration (No "Hiccups")

We focus heavily on the CAN-bus logic to ensure the unit "talks" to your Lexus perfectly:
  • Factory Controls: The 10.25" and 12.3" units both fully support the Lexus Joystick, ****, and steering wheel buttons.
  • Cameras: Integration is seamless. Whether it’s the standard reverse camera or the factory 360-degree system, it triggers instantly in R-gear without user input.
  • Hybrid Support: Our units are fully compatible with the RX450h, preserving all original hybrid-specific displays and menus.

3. Performance Evidence

While the specific vehicle might vary, the Linux system core remains consistent across our Lexus lineup. You can see the responsiveness and OEM integration in action here:
.
  • Note: This video shows the 16-19 RX, but the logic, speed, and controller smoothness are identical to the 09-15 RX units.

4. Technical Disclosure (The "Fine Print")

  • Power Management: Our system features a complete shutdown mechanism. Once the car is off, the unit cuts power entirely, meaning zero risk of battery drain/standby current draw.
  • What you keep: You lose nothing. Mark Levinson audio, factory radio, climate controls, and mileage settings are all retained and viewable on the new screen.
Bottom Line: We use the best available hardware shells, but we load them with a custom, high-speed Linux kernel that provides the most "OEM-like" experience on the market.

Default Product video and installation.

Hi, and thank you for the information. I am considering your product, specifically the 12-inch Linux unit, mainly because of the faster startup time.

My only hesitation is that I have not been able to find any actual photos or videos of this exact unit installed in a 2015 Lexus RX 350.

Could you please share real installation photos and a short video showing the unit installed and running (startup, responsiveness, and basic functions)?

Thank you.
