There was a recall on this issue, but it's been a long time since that recall. It was for 2010-2012 Rx450h only. So you are out of that range. Program no 20LE03... well honestly I mean anything with 2000 psi constant pressure is bound to fail at some point. The thing that annoys me is, this is a main part of the car and you can't really use the car without fixing the issue and the cost of the parts are super high. I am surprised that they are able to get away with this one.
Shops get about 20 percent off and they resell the part to you. Yes, if you supply the parts, they won't give you a warranty on anything. Parts ordered from Lexus parts, etc. come with a one year warranty on the part though.
I think that's standard practice. I use a non-dealer auto shop. No warranty on labor/installation if I bring the parts. There's a few things that I insist OEM. Otherwise, they'll use non-OEM along with a 2 year warranty on everything.
Thanks for all this info! They won;t install any part they don't get themselves...I can understand why, but as long as I can compare what lexuspartnow charges against what they want to charge I'll be armed with the right info.
You can ask the lexuspartsnow folks. There is a question link. Or call. They respond to questions online but it might take a few days. You can also put your VIN and try to find the brake actuator or pump from the options, or search.
Your part numbers might be different, I am not sure about 2013. Also you were not part of the recall. If you had a dealer near you a good way to check is to get a quote from them, but they won't give you part numbers over the phone. If you go there in person you can get the numbers.
i'm new to Lexus so if anyone else knows a good way to get part numbers that would be helpful

I'm at the next decision crossroads. First, I confirmed with a Lexus dealer nearby that the code I show was addressed in a customer service letter that went out many years ago and advises to replace two parts of ABS, pump and actuator. However, the time has long passed when this would have been covered by Lexus and since it wasn't a problem back then, a moot point. So, I now know which two parts are recommended to be replaced and they total $2075 on Lexuspartsnow.com. But the shop I am planning to use won't accept parts from owners Which brings me to my conundrum:
One of the the parts (brake actuator) they indicated would be ~$1850 -- on Lexuspartsnow.com its listed at $1307. They indicate theirs costs more because they provide a 3 year/36K mile warranty on both parts and labor, which explains the cost difference. If you add in the second part I'm estimating I'd be paying about $900-1,000 more for those two parts than I would if I bought them off the website.
I don't know of any shop that would install parts I supplied. A I stuck paying $1000 more for a 3 yr warranty on everything, or keep looking and try to get it cheaper and probably just a one year warranty to save the $1000?
How about looking for an independent shop who can place an order directly from on line Lexus parts store. It is just a matter of asking around and finding one.
I found a shop that seemed very familiar with the Lexus ABS problem and will install owner-supplied parts (both) for $1000, no warranty on the part but they will warranty their labor. The parts come to $2075, so $3075 for a 12 year old car. Kelley Blue Book private party value of $11,500.
Shop that would only install their parts (with 3 yr warranty on everything) came to $4300
I realize its subject and the money isn't the issue so muahc as putting that much inot a repair for a 12 yo car, and whether an additional 2 yrs warranty is worth it? Thoughts?

If you like the vehicle, want to keep it and it's in otherwise good shape, $3k isn't much to keep a vehicle on the road. About 5 years ago I spent $5k for various things to keep my 2000 Tundra roadworthy. No regrets.
Of course spending $3k won't get you a dime back in resale value but that money is already gone because the resale value will be significantly less absent the repair being done. It's really more about the overall condition of your vehicle and expected/potential future repairs versus the costs and depreciation of a new/newer vehicle. Properly maintained, these vehicles seem to have a good reputation for reliability/longevity.
