Angry Silent security fail - passenger door not locking

FYI

Discovered a strange security issue. While open, if my passenger door is locked, it immediately becomes unlocked when closed. The alarm does not sound when I open it. All other doors stay locked (as expected) after I close them. This isn't something I'm interested in tearing into since I have an easy workaround by locking after the door is closed, but you may want to check if your doors are affected and make a behavior change!

This is a very old feature/design point, long before remote based locking, and smart technology that senses the key fob is inside the cabin.

There used to be work around, such as lift/press the door release lever as you close the door. But that cant be done as the grab action will unlock.

My 07 RX does not behave this way. The driver side door does not behave this way. It's clearly broken.

Yeah, that's the way I've always done it with all our vehicles. Everyone out of car, including myself, all doors closed, key fob in hand, press.

Yes but the OPs objective is to
1. With the door open, hit the lock
2. Close the door shut.
His observation is that the door unlocks.

Let me know if I have misunderstood the objective or the door lock remains locked.

Locking then closing the door could result in you locking your fob inside the car. For example lock the car, put the keys on the seat when grabbing something else then closing the door.

Yes, locking doors before exiting the vehicle and closing the doors can result in locking keys inside vehicle with you outside. My wife required three calls to AAA before finally learning that lesson.
