Been a long time since i posted. I appreciate the CL family.

Long story short. I live in NY and my car was hit on the driver side rear. Turns out the guy has no insurance and now i'm stuck with this. (See pics)
I just wanted to ask if anyone knows what this part is thats circled (i think its a parking assist). I've looked around and seen many different part numbers. Wondering if it needs to be the exact part #.


im slowly putting together a parts list and need to sure i get everything. Thanks in advance.

Looks like Blind Spot Monitor. Do you have that?

 

I'm not sure what's the difference between parking assist and blind spot monitoring. Is it the same?

Get a few body shop estimates. They are free and will usually provide a detailed parts list.

What year is it and how many miles are on it?
What about your own insurance company? Don't you have uninsured motorist coverage for body damage. I know it is required for injury in NY.

It looks like they may declare the vehicle a total loss.
Those sensors cannot just be replaced. You need the equipment to calibrate and integrate them into the car safety system.

My friend had minor bumper damage that was only visible as a slightly pushed in sensor on the side. It cost $3000!

Man, didnt want a total loss. This is just becoming a nightmare. This is a 2015 with 124K miles.
I was hoping I can put it all back together.

If you zoom in below the wiring harness is completely sliced. Does anyone know if I can buy the whole harness?

 

Can buy the harness but it will be silly expensive. Harness can be repaired. Price out that module before you consider any repairs.

 

Before you decide to piecemeal a solution, look at the major appearance items
Left rear quarter panel
rear hatch

For DIY find a pick a part salvage yard with your model and color frontal damaged RX. Hatch can be fully replaced but not your quarter panel. Bumper, bumper skin harness can be swapped out.

Check with a body shop for the quarter panel. Really good shops in Austin don't want to talk to insurance companies and they want direct payment. <FYI>

I feel your pain. I had an older RX350 that was rear ended in the exact same spot. Some dumb kid in the neighborhood driving a VW crashed into my Lexus which was parked on the side of the road. He claimed that a spider got into his eye and distracted his driving. Right.

My Lexus was diagnosed by the repair shop. The Trunk floor was buckled which caused it to be totaled. My understanding is that if any part of the frame is damaged, then the car is deemed unsafe and unrepairable. So make sure you have it checked out by a reliable shop. You nightmare may just started.

 

When I bought my 2016 Toyota Sienna used it had been traded in because the original owner did not want to fix the damaged blind spot monitor on the right rear bumper. It had little to no visible damage.
It cost $1800 to repair at the Toyota dealer. I agreed to buy it from the Ford dealer he traded it to at our agreed price and they had the Toyota dealer repair it. There was no visible damage just enough to damage the blind spot sensor. I m sure the RX has the exact same sensors.
So yes, your nightmare is just beginning. It will cost far far more than you expect.

 

I'm back. I appreciate everyones feedback.

I finally bit the bullet and bought all the parts I needed. I read everyone's comments and was a bit scared.

In the end i felt the car was still good. I didn't want to have the car as a total loss. I wanted to put it all together myself. Even paint.

I bought the bumper from ebay. Paint, reducer, hardner, harness, screws, fasteners, etc., I only needed one sensor.

Took me all day today. Paint, clear, etc. Everything worked. Sensors, sonar, all of it.

I could not for the life of me get the dents on the trunk and rear corner panel out. I will tackle that later. Just need this on the road again.

 

I take it you didn’t have insurance?

 

Seek out a PDR tech to get the rest of the dents out.

 

PDR = Paintless Dent Repair and that was going to be my suggestion. They can work wonders.
