Default 2010 Lexus Rx 350 passenger mirror malfunction

I have a 2010 Lexus rx350. My passenger side mirror that is malfunctioning. Every time I start the vehicle the passenger side mirror moves all the way to the forward position. To the point, that I can no longer see out of it. I have to physically get out of the car, and manually push the side mirror back into the normal position. It is only then, that I can actually see out of the mirror to back the vehicle out of the garage safely.

Has anyone has this happened? Is it repairable?

Thank you!!

2010 does not have electric folding mirrors. [or at least not on mine]. It does have folding mirrors and one has to manually move the housing to a use position indent [one click away from fold]. Then there is adjustment/setting controlled by the mirror position set per driver [driver side buttons and set driver position]. The third movement is based on shifter being in R [in combination with driver rear view button position]. This tilts the mirrors down and back to normal when shifter is moved out of Reverse.

Interesting!! Mine seems to have electric folding mirrors. Is this repairable? Or do I just need a whole new mirror??

It should be repairable, but in this day and age, replace is usually the most cost effective method. See if you can find a color matching mirror on eBay. Inside there is a motor and gears and the problem could be with the wiring to the motor, motor itself or mechanical to operate the mirror. Since it folds for you, the problem could be in the reversing action. If you have to pay some one to diagnose and repair I think it will be cheaper with replacing it [salvage yard part]. If it is your own time ... DIY ... you can purchase any color and swap innards or even tinker with it to fix it.

If you visit an online Lexus retailer parts store [ex:Lexus of Atalanta] and drill down to your year/model and get the part number.

Thank you for letting me know that electric folding mirror was available for 2010.

My 2010 has folding mirrors as well. I have it set so they fold when I lock the doors. I can leave them in place if I like (that is they need not fold, it is optional) - so, assuming your car is set to fold and unfold with the door lock procedure (and not just randomly folding), you might try turning off the automatic folding and let them just stay in place and position at all times. That way you save money by not replacing the mirror unit and the mirror should be where you want it when you unlock the car.

This is worth a try!!! Especially, if if avoids me from replacing the whole mirror assembly. How do i turn OFF Automatic folding?
Thanks for this tip!!

I don't recall (will check) but I guess if the automatic is illuminated (A) then the mirror will fold/unfold with the door lock/unlock- so, push the button to turn it off. (I said that the engine controls - but its the lock/unlock of the door that controls the mirror movement)

I checked this morning -- when I turn the engine on a green led lights up on the automatic fold button -- if I push it the light turns off - indicating that feature is not activated. let us know if that worked for you!
