I own three older Lexus vehicles, and two have identical key fobs. While I put a sticker on one to tell it apart from the other, I accidentally inserted the wrong key the other day. Just like that, I couldn't turn the key. My understanding it's the immobilizer. I tried inserting the correct key and pushing the buttons on the fob, turning the steering wheel as far to the left as possible while turning the key, tapping the outside of the cylinder with a hammer and screwdriver -- none of those things worked.
Any ideas?

Reason: spelling
I think the solution shows my problem is with the cylinder into which the key is placed and not necessarily the immobilizer. After trying the solution from above involving arming and disarming, I squirted a lubricant into the cylinder, placed a standard screwdrived against the cylinder and banged it moderately with a hammer, and, holding the steering wheel as far counterclockwise as possible, slid the key in and out and turned it back and forth until it magically turned.
i have used the open/ shut a number of times after friends have inserted the wrong key. It has always worked. either with the key in the door, or with the remote
