Default TPMS ECU part number

Pretty sure I blew this up as I am now having a host of CAN problems with items on the CAN Centrer J/C leg and am replacing the various ECUs to attempt to fix (Networking ECU and P/S ECU)

here’s my question… my TPMS is an 89769-48021. All I can find are 89769-xxxxx versions that don’t exactly match. If I go to Lexus Parts they only show 89769 as the part so can I assume that any 89769 will work or do I need to match the suffix?

89769-48021 replaces 89769-48020 according to several parts sites. Any other suffix besides 48020 and 48021 can't be sure if the part is compatible.

thanks. That’s the conclusion I’m coming to also. I saw a video where the prefix was the same but different suffix and could tell the wiring was different for what pins were being used by the wires.

The part number 89769-48021 is for a 2006 - 2008 RX400H. In automotive parts (not just Toyota) the prefix is a category (the part type). All similar parts would start with the same prefix number. The suffix is the part number within that category.

If you had a RX330, the part number is 88240-48091
If you had a RX350, the part number is 89796-0E011

Oops, wasn’t specific… it is a 2008 RX400h.

also somewhat worried about the Brake System Control Module.

I’m getting codes:

U0129 P/S ECU no coms
U0131 BSCM no coms
U0146 Lost connection to Gateway A

hoping the root cause is the Networking ECU (Gateway A).

basically my TPMS control was not registering my TPMS sensors, had two tire companies check all my sensors and both confirmed they are good. So I was trying to determine how f there was a bad pin on the TPMS module and believe I shorted it. So looking to replace it and the other ECUs reporting issues.

Lexus/ Toyota ECU’s will lock you out if it thinks the system is being messed with. You will need a proper scan tool to unlock the ECU. Then reprogram the sensor ID’s back into the ECU. Leave the ignition on and use the scan tool to rescan all the sensors again. That almost always works

I have TechStream but don’t see a place to unlock an ECU. Do you known where to do that?

I’m not familiar with TechStream. Sorry, I have TPMS tools that already have the program. Even if techstream worked I would still recommend a scan tool to be able to rescan the sensors after the ID’s are programmed. Not to say it’s going to work for you but this has been the difference rather than just driving the vehicle in a lot of vehicles I had issues with. Take a look at this link

Is this ECU reset a manual way to reset all ECUs?

Hi guys,

thanks for the help.

I solved this today no bad ECUs… was just the 7.5A ECU fuse blown due to my poking around with the TPMS ECU.

so if someone gets the same error codes that I did, U0129, U0131 and U0146 then look at the fuse first. I doubt that will happen except very rarely.

I owe this guy thanks… “check power and grounds”.

Forgot to add. All I could find on ebay was the older 89769-48020 and once i had the car fuse repaired and I installed it, it took away the low pressure warning light. I checked the TPMS sensor ids and they are all blank and yet it doesn’t report a problem. Guessing this is why they rev’d it to 48021.
